Programme AimsThe HND in jewellery design, production and business is designed to provide advanced skills, as well as, technical and professional training for those who desire to work in the jewellery trade or in related areas. This is an ideal programme for anyone wishing to become self employed. Time for a career change, time to do the subject you have always wanted - now you can! Programme StructureThis is a full-time programme which consists of a series of HN units with continuous assessment and no formal examination. The jewellery manufacturing units are undertaken in a well equipped traditional jewellery workshop and involves demonstrations followed by practice of the necessary skills. The Business and Specialist units involve study and research, there is a lot of help on hand to assist the student with both the practical and academic study. Visits to museums and exhibitions and participation in exhibitions and sales are all part of this programme. Career OpportunitiesThere are varied career opportunities available to those who successfully complete this programme. For example it is designed for those who wish to become self-employed or enter the jewellery trade. It can also provide managerial level entry into retailing or support work with a charity or fund-raising. The programme would be beneficial for anyone who has aspirations to run a craft shop or gallery. ProgressionSuccessful completion of this programme can lead to the HND jewellery Design, Production & Business at Lauder College. Students may also wish to progress to further studies at Art College or progress to employment in the jewellery trade. Preferred Entry RequirementsThe entrance requirements are either:
FundingFunding for
higher level programmes normally comes from the Scottish Awards Agency for
Scotland (SAAS). They can help with fees, travel, students loans and other
allowances. Study Method - Full TimeThe length of the course depends on the mode of study. If studied on a full-time basis the course will be completed in 36 weeks. Full-time - Min 15 hours per week in college, with 20 hours home study. Start Date - September 2002 How to book and enrol:Visit the
