The Land Cruiser 78

After 15 years the Toyota engineers decided the Land Cruiser 75 was ready to be replaced. So the Land Cruiser 78 was presented to the public int the autumn of 1999. But since it isn't necessary to change anything that works just fine, changes weren't to big. Apart from the larger pickup cabin (15cm more room inside) and the new grille, no changes were made to the exterior. Underneath the new car the changes were bigger. A new front axle had been fitted, and the new piece wasn't leaf sprung, but coil sprung. Main effort was to improve driving comfort and durability.

As the Land Cruiser 78 was presented, some Toyota dealers in Europe decided to include it in their range of cars. Also the number of independent dealers selling a Heavy Duty LC increased. But it didn't last to long, as the EU agreed on new emission regulations from January 1. 2002. After this date no new LC 78/79 will be imported to most european countries. What regulations that will aply to second hand cars that are imported to these countries are uncertain. TWS!

Engines offered are the 1FZ-FE and the 1HZ .
