The Mummy
1989
Archeologist Lawrence Stratford dies a mysterious death just after he has found the mummy of Ramses II. The mummy is taken to London, to his daughter Julie, where it is shown to the world. But this is no ordinary mummy. Ramses II had claimed to be immortal, and Julie learns that this is the truth. A beautiful man comes back to life and after being asleep for 2000 years he enters London in the year 1914.
My comments
A very good book indeed. Typical Rice, I think. Maybe the characters arent as good as they usually are, but I was quite fond of Ramses, Kleopatra and Henry, Julies cousin.
Ok, Im sorry, but I have to mention this. Close your eyes if youre tired of my sex-talk! Lawrence, Julies father, had an affair with Julies boyfriend Alexs father when they were young. The ordinary gay-love part. But there is more. Elliott, Alexs father, later had an affair with Henry. Not very wise of him, but still. And Julie says that she was more in love with Elliott than she had ever been with Alex. He must be one handsome man!
Do you remember Marius mentioning Ramses the Damned when he was telling his story to Lestat in TVL? He said Ramses was a vampire, didnt he? But thats wrong. He drank some kind of potion and became immortal! But, of course, TVL was written before The Mummy, so I guess Anne simply changed her mind
