Cry to Heaven
1990
This book is about Tonio. When his father dies, his brother sends him off to join the castrati.
Guido is the master who takes him there, and becomes his teacher. Tonio has a great voice, and is a success on the stage.
But being a great singer isnt all hes dreaming about. He also dreams about revenge, about killing his brother.
Dont weep in front of these strangers. Swallow it down. Dont weep in front of these strangers! Cry to heaven, cry to heaven, cry to heaven.
~Tonio

Love you! Love you! I am in hell of desire for you! Have you never guessed? Have you never looked beneath the coldness. Are you so blind to this suffering?
~Guido to Tonio
Oh, this is the best book I have ever read! I was looking all over London for it, but it was worth it!
The love between Tonio and Guido was so beautiful...And theres lots of love-scenes...My friend read one of them, and was making puking-noises. But its not disgusting, its, as another friend pointed out, rather sweet.
Ok, so I didnt like the fact that Tonio fell in love with that girl
or the Cardinal, but other than that it was so great! But maybe it was a little too obvious that Carlo was Tonios father
I hope my English teacher appreciates the book-review I'm giving her on this book!*s*
And maybe a NC-17 rating on it wouldnt be so bad.
