Amnesia
I'm not sure if this one is my favorite or the sister one is my favorite. This one is currently my active story from the trilogy, although I do revisit the sister every now and again. I also am not sure which one I want to come first. The sister starts the earliest, but it also ends last. It spans the most time and is on-going while this story begins and ends...although, in all honesty, this one starts the earliest if you really want to get technical. So, there is a lot of confusion. Without further ado, my story:

Prologue opens with Peter and Kate sleeping together in a cabin or shack in the woods. Ah, Kate: I was going to have her named Maggie, but we all know why that
won't work. I was going to have Peter be named either James or Adam but I have another story for someone that has to be named Adam. And James...yeah. I also just picked Peter at this moment because I hadn't really had a name for him yet. If I had, it wasn't anything permanent or worth remembering.

Peter gets up and leaves without wanting to disturb her sleep and he goes out to meet his friend,
Sean. They're going sailing. Or fishing. Or some boat related activity. He and Sean are out on the ocean just as a major storm his and their boat is tossed about. They hold on pretty good for a while, but they can't see the rocks because the lighthouse isn't lit. The same lighthouse that Kate was supposed to light.

See, Kate is the lighthouse keeper's daughter. The lighthouse keeper is a drunk so, ever since Kate was old enought to be able to do it, Kate has been maintaining the lighthouse in his stead. And her dad drinks his wages away...so, poor.

The ship/boat gets sunk, Sean washes up to shore later and he is mostly all right, except a
broken arm and a concussion. But, Pete never shows up. Maybe he was named Sam. I don't remember.

Peter has actually washed up several miles away in a small town that for whatever reason has not heard of the missing man and are unable to find out who he is or where he belongs. An old couple nurse him back to health, either not telling anyone about him or not telling the right people. And, did I forget to mention he has amnesia? So he's no help.

Several months later (like 4 or 6), Pete and the town reconnect somehow and he is discovered to be alive. Kate decides not to reveal her relationship to him because of guilt for letting him get in the accident, ostracization (is that even a word?) from the town because it was her fault for the accident (except of course Sean and Pete's sister don't blame her), her drunk father, the fact that Pete comes from the town's richest family and her the poorest, and I am sure there are a number more reasons I can come up with if I think them up long and hard. Conflict, see.

So, Pete's sitting in church and he is drawn to Kate. He keeps staring at her. This happens for several weeks in a row. He goes to visit with his
sister and he asks her about Kate, since everyone else has been completely unforthcoming with information.

His sister tells him that they were all friends when they were little and that is it. He leaves his sister's house and coincidentally happens upon Kate walking home. They start talking and he feels that connection. It's as if he remembers feelings, not necessarily memories and he has some powerful feelings for her.

Later, he and
Sean have some bonding time and Sean reveals to him that there was more between Kate and him than meets the eye. Sean isn't sure what because he was never brought in the loop, but Sean definitely knows there are feelings between Kate and Pete and that Pete has been in love with her forever.

Sean also
reveals a traumatic love in his past, just to keep the trilogy moving along. Oh, and also tells Pete about the cabin along the border between Pete's land and the lighthouse land. And Pete actually owns the cabin because it was his grandfather's or something and he inherited it and not his father. So, Pete decides to go there for a visit and I am really starting to dislike the name Pete. It doesn't fit him, but I was trying to be all "Taming of the Shrew" with Kate and Pete/Petruchio (although Kate isn't remotely shrewish).

Pete goes to the cabin and comes across Kate. She is crying or something equally sickeningly sweet. Pete at first assumes that Kate is crying over some other man. Clueless! He asks her questions and she won't answer. Finally, he asks her if it is him. Kate still doesn't answer, or says "no" or something.

Begin interruption: Pete comes to the realization that there are multiple personalities he is dealing with inside him. Not like psychotic or anything just that there is the old him he doesn't remember being, but everyone else does, treating him as the old him. The new him that he is without his history or his memories to affect or shape him as the old him was. And there will be the old/new him when his two personalities merge once he gets his memory back. Because the new him is just as valid as the old him.

I also forgot to mention that he has a "fiance" (one e or two?) from when they took advantage of his memory loss to thrust her on him. One of the town darlings that had been in love with Pete, or his money, forever. Of course she is a royal bitch. Of course she is a royal bitch specifically to Kate. They used Pete's memory loss to their advantage to thrust Bitch on him, Pete uses his memory loss to claim that he needs to get to know Bitch better because they are strangers now. And he has these feeling for Kate. End interruption.

Back to the story: he convinces Kate to meet with him at the cabin on a frequent basis and they start to get to know each other and be friends, never bringing up her maybe love for him. Then one day, while at the cabin with Kate, somehow or another, part of his memory is jogged and he remembers being with her, only flashes of imagery and only really quick. So, he catches her in the truth and she breaks down and admits her love for him then and her new love for him now. See? As he was and as he is? Get it? La-di-da.

So, Pete is walking Kate back to her lighthouse one afternoon and they stumble across her father's body. Murdered most foul. They have to uncover what happened because someone is after Kate. I haven't really gotten much farther than this because I keep scaring myself in telling the story. Also, I just started this story back in July and haven't finished creating it in my head.
