Introduction to Life:
Life plays a significant part in this play. Words related to light, sun, flower and hope are commonly used in this play. These words are images of life and represent vitality, growth and happiness.
Juliet constantly describes Romeo as a form of light that is capable of illuminating darkness. For example, Juliet says, Take him (Romeo) and cut him out in little stars, And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with the night And pay no attention to the garish sun. She also says, Come night, come Romeo, come thou day in night, which means that Romeo can make the night as bright as day.
Romeo, too, describes how Juliet teaches the torches to burn bright and says, But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and Juliet is the sun. He uses words like bright angel to describe Juliet. The imageries that he uses are imageries of life.
Friar Lawrence also comments, The earth that's nature's mother is her tomb. What is her burying grave, that is her womb. It means that death brings about a new life.
Life can be clearly seen, although death plays a bigger part in this play.
