Goku,unable to beat Cell, steps down after a furious fight and names Earth's next defender... his son, Gohan.  No one, including Cell, is happy about this, but none more so than Piccolo...

Gohan, although more than strong enough to beat Cell, only manages to make Cell cough 18 up.  Gohan, determined to make Cell suffer, toys with him, giving Cell the opportunity to use his trump card--self detonation--and forcing Goku to step in, one last time...

Goku, though dead, is still having adventures. He closes the show with a number reminiscing about his first trip along Snake Way, where he met King Kai, who is not speaking to him now due to the destruction of his car (and planet)...
