Enya on CD cover
Evening Falls by Enya

Enya is from Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland.
She left in 1980 to join the Irish band Clannad.
Enya, nee: Eithne Ni Bhraonain, was born into a musical family.
Her father, Leo Brennan, was the lead
of the Slieve Foy Band, a popular
show band of Ireland; her mother was an aspiring
musician. Clannad was formed by her siblings,
who formed the band in 1976
with several of their
uncles.

Enya joined the band as a
keyboardist in 1979.
She donated her talents to several of the
group's television soundtracks.

Lacking interest in the band,
Enya left in 1982.

Within a few years, she
was entrusted with producer-
arranger Nicky Ryan and lyricist
Roma Ryan, to provide the score
for a British Broadcasting series called The Celts.
The soundtrack was released in 1986
as a solo album.

Watermark became a surprise hit
with its release in 1988. "Orinoco Flow,"
the first single pulled from the album,
became a number one hit in
Britain. The album eventually
sold four million albums worldwide.

Enya spent the years following
the success of Watermark rather quietly.
Her most notable appearance was
a cameo on Sinead O'Connor's
I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.

She finally released Shepherd Moons,
her follow-up to Watermark, in 1991.
Shepherd Moons entering the U.S.
charts at number 17,
eventually sold over ten
million copies worldwide.

Her newest release (in 2000)
is a beautiful song...
Only Time, in lyrics.
