Multiple Personality Disorder
Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) is commonly associated with people such as Sybil (sp?) and those portrayed by the movie Identity. Essentially, each personality is unaware of the others. In extreme cases, each personality doesn't even remember what happened while the other personality was in 'charge'. Wes and Elena are not like this.

Elena and Wes know about each other in great detail! I'm not sure when exactly this occurred, possibly somewhere around the age of 33 or so. And there are definitely no 'blackout' periods that would lead me to believe that there has been any 'switching' between the two.

It appears obvious to me that, just as in 'normal' MPD, Elena and Wes split at an early age as a coping mechanism. This was further exacerbated up through the late twenties by my involvement in ever increasing masculine activities. Had I lived a more normal childhood, perhaps these two personalities would have never split and I would be a more well rounded individual. As it is, Wes is a likeable, but definitely macho bastard. Elena is a shy and submissive child of ten or twelve.

Does this mean that I'm not MPD? Yes, according to accepted psychiatric practice. Does this mean I don't have two distinct personalities sharing body parts? No, unless you want to accept that current psychiatric method knows enough about the way our brain works to make absolutely correct diagnoses. :)
