Precipitation

e long-term average annual precipitation for the area, based on records from Alice, TX,  is 716 mm.  Of the total annual precipitation, 483 mm (70%) usually falls in April through September.  The highest rainfall month is September when an average of 167.6 mm, about 23 percent of average annual rainfall occurs.  Late summer-fall rainfall averages are strongly skewed by tropical storm systems associated with proximity of the Gulf.  Another rainfall peak occurs during May and June.  March is usually the driest month with an average of only 20.3 mm.  Snowfall is rare with a long-term average of 5.1 mm occurring only in February.
