The Quest for the Second City

Back Story
By this time in the campaign it was widely known that Oroth was searching for the artifact known as the Prism of Altari, in his bid to break free of imprisonment.  It was the key Ompos had used to secure the imprisonment and only by its corruption could Oroth sunder the barrier.  It was also well known that the Prism was lost in the Second City, sunk far beneath the waves in a war ancient beyond reckoning, following a battle between the Deva Tapheon and a Void Dragon.

Foolishness
Nask and the Priestess, while having a late night planning conference, decide they should get to the Second City and acquire the Prism before Oroth's minions can get their hands on it.  The Priestess's face lights up.  "Wait," she says, "I have a fishing boat."  All who they talk to insist that the fishing boat is a boat for a day's excursion on an inland lake, not a month long voyage to the home of the Elders.  However, they persist and hire a gnome navigator for an exorbanent price, which he demands up front and immediately gives to his family.
From the priest's of Aquin, they find the path to the Second City.  South to BlackRock Spire.  West through the Kraken's Teeth.  Past the Isle of Serpents.  Directly beneath the center of the Maelstrom.  Their first week passes uneventfully, with the Priestess calling upon the power of her god to supply them with food and fresh water.  The second week passes uneventfully, and they thread and weave between the jagged rocks known as the Kraken's Teeth under stormy skies.  When two tentacles wrap around the hull of the ship and begin squeezing and cracking, the party panicks.  They hack wildly and cast spells at the tentacles.  The Priestess and the Navigator are both knocked unconcious, while Nask manages to damage the beast enough that it retreats back into the deep.  He grabs the breathing helm and jumps into the water after it, swimming directly at its beak for a killing blow.  The great beak closes like a guillotine, swallowing Nask whole.
The Kraken, realizing it just ate the last threat, shatters the ship and indulges itself with the other tasty morsels.

Other Plans
Cydwin and Gerald, realizing their common goals, begin acquiring the resources nessecery for a real expadition. They rent at great cost, a Gnomish Dart, the fastest and most secure ship known to man.  Calling in a favor with the Priests of Aquin nets them two breathing helms along with the directions to the Maelstrom.  An adventure deep in an underground lake gives them a submarine carved from an enourmous nautilis shell.  And they hire Cyrgon Rubypick, best damned navigator to sail the seas.  They even temporarily align themselves with the Grey Robes, for the first and last time, in exchange for their help getting to the Second City.
They set out, zipping by BlackRock Spire, taking a small detour so Gerald can find himself in the Lake of Dreams, and reach the Kraken's Teeth.  The battle is short but brutal, as the (still injured) Kraken is driven off by a concentrated rain of spellfire.  The Isle of Serpents is investigated and fled, as the Dragonkin swoop down, snatching anything of value.
The party reaches the Maelstrom, and instead of charging into it, goes down at an angle in the Nautilis Shell.

The Second City
As Cydwin and Gerald advance upon the City a glorious sight unveils itself before them, a network of perfectly preserved streets and homes, built for what only could have been giants.  A huge creature approches them, and they flee, realizing that this creature beyond reckoning must be the Leviathan.  Luckily, it pays them no heed, as even the Nautilis shell is dwarfed by its immensity.  They touch down in the City, disembarking from the Nautilis.
The relics of a war long past remain scattered in the streets of the dead city.  A sword imbedded in the invulnrable stone of the City's construction; a huge troll, thirty feet tall, still writhes, pinned to a wall by a spike of cold iron; a unidentifiable figure, frozen in ice for all these years.
A glimmering gem stands out as they become desperate in their search, the Prism.  A figure materializes before it, a deva perfect of form, but somehow warped, with twin orbs of pure darkness replacing its eyes and tattered wings adorning it's back.  A sword wreathed in black flames appears in its hands as it enters battle.  Cydwin steps forward to confront the being that was once Tapheon.  Each blow lands with a wave of mystic energy as the fighters call upon ever shred of their power.  The fallen angel collapses into wisps of disembodied energy, with the Seeress's Falchion imbedded in what used to be it's heart.
With a hard battle won, and the Prism of Altair in their hands, they turn to the other oddities around them.  Tugging at the sword, and ignoring the troll, they eventually find their way back to the block of ice.  After a short argument, they shatter the ice releasing a being, a member of the First Race known as Xalanos.  He gives them the key to the vaults in gratitude for his release and vanishes.
They explore the vaults and pick over everything that is not nailed down.  They take the Weapons of Power (Plaguebringer and Lifesbane) and everything they're pretty sure wouldn't kill a mortal for touching it.  A First Race Memory Crystal, a suit of invulrable mail, a helm and many other things with stranger forms and functions.

The Return
As the Dart flies back to Kli, their port of choice, Gerald and Cydwin celebrate cautiously, arguing with the Grey Robes over which side should receive which bounty without knowing any items function.  Their bickering is interuptted as Dark Prophet materializes in a burst of Black Flame and begins destroying those who get in the way of his beeline towards the Prism.  Several items of the First Race are used for the first time, hoping to stave off Dark Prophet's assault.  Gerald uses the Rod of Transmutation to become a four armed combat monstrosity, equal parts human dragon and nightmare.  Cydwin sheaths himself in the best armor the first race has to offer and dons the helm.
The helm speaks terrible things into Cydwin's mind as Gerald is torn apart by Black Flame.  Gerald turns on Cydwin for a moment, shattering the Helm through sheer use of force, as Dark Prophet seizes the Prism.
Black Flame flows through and around the Prism, draining the light from it as Dark Prophet clutches it in his hands.  Gerald focuses every bit of energy he possesses through the Sands of Purity, his gift from the Lake of Dreams, and huge gout of purifying white flames engulf Dark Prophet.
A moment later, there are only wisps of shadowy smoke and a prism in the million shades of grey, spinning slowly on the deck of the ship.
