Shot Put

There are many techniques that you can use to get the put from one place to the other.  Although not all of the ways are allowed in competitions, you can use the side glide, back glide, rotary or spinner, or the SD back bender (unique).  On this page you may also find tips on how to sho the put the proper way.
Most shot putters that are not professionals believe that the side glide and the back glide are the best.  Most of the shot putters at our school use the back glide.  We now have 1 spinner and one side glider.  These two individuals are working very hard on their techniques for their first track meet.

The SD Back Bender
S tart with your back facing the direction you wish to throw while being on top of the stop block with your feet one shoulder length away from each other.  Bend over to at least a 50* angle.  In this action, hold the put firmly in both hands between your legs.  Now fling the put as had as you can behind you.  Just to let you know this is usually used as a warm-up and not allowed in competitions.
