| With his Chancellorship came a host of new laws and authorities for Palpatine, most of which he implemented to further his own dark plans. He was able to create a group of elite bodyguards, though he maintained they were used to streamline cumbersome bureaucracy. Objections pertaining that the red-robed guards were merely illegal personal protectors ran the risk of violating Palpatine's new security laws. He added many more changes, and manip- ulated even more Senators. Though he created the Loyalist Committee to supposedly support the Republic during the seperatist crisis, he was careful to maintain control over them. The seperatist crisis itself was all Darth Sidious's doing. He recruited the rogue Jedi, Count Dooku, to begin rebellion against the Republic, spreading his views of the corrupt government across the galaxy. It wasn't long before the Trade Federation joined the seperatists, and many more commerce guilds signed up soon after. Sidious had also ordered the creation of a clone army for the Republic. Once the Army of the Republic clashed with Dooku's Confederacy of Independant Systems, Palpatine would be in a position to implement the final stage of his plan. If the Republic lost the war, there would be no one to stop Palpatine taking complete control of the galaxy...and if Dooku lost, not only would Palpatine be able to recruit Skywalker as his next apprentice, but there would be no enemies left to oppose the Republic, and the future Empire Palpatine would instigate. Everything was proceeding as planned. |
