As Alderaan's entire population was at peace with each other, there were no major troubles on the planet, and all weapons were forbidden, it seemed as if the planet's royalty was doing something right.
Headed by Viceroy Bail Organa, the Royal House of Alderaan - also known as the Royal Alderaanian Court, or simply the high court - was located in Aldera City, which itself was located on an island created by an old meteor impact. Organa once maintained a palace there, with views that looked out over the glittering lake and beautiful gardens. Shortly after the Clone Wars, which took a heavy toll on Alderaan, the royal family outlawed all weapons on the planet, creating the peaceful world Alderaan became known as. The royal family had created harmony across the planet, and were highly praised for their actions.
The Royal House had not always been so highly regarded, however. Though he grew to become a beloved leader on Alderaan, Bail Organa's ascent to that position was not without controversy. For a brief time before Organa inherited the Viceroy title, there was a dispute regarding the appropriate lineage of ascendancy. After three deadlocked votes, a special dispatch from the Republic government in the form of Jedi Jorus C'baoth was sent to oversee the ascendancy. C'baoth guided the tribunal to the decision that saw the appointment of Organa. It proved a good choice, until construction of the Empire's Death Star was completed; Alderaan, and much of its royal family, was destroyed by a single blast from the battle station's deadly superweapon.
