Sleek and speedy, the Naboo Royal Starship was built for quick escapes and fast journeys - it certainly proved useful when it escaped from the Trade Federation blockade over Naboo, but its lack of weapons left the ship in desperate need of repair.
Like most Naboo starships, the J-type Nubian transport was not fitted with weapons to keep with Naboo's peaceful culture. However, the ship was not without defenses; it had strong deflector shields and a fast hyperdrive, and was usually accompanied by an escort of N-1 starfighters. The Naboo Starship was used exclusively for the planet's royalty, so security had to be tight indeed. The ship's chrome exterior was royal chromium, usually reserved for vessels serving Naboo's monarch. The mirrored surface was hand-polished and crafted by fine artisans, not by automatons or factory equipment. Most of the technology was imported from Nubia, but the craft itself was constructed on Naboo. The ship's interior was just as elegant as the exterior; royal quarters fore and aft, tech stations and even a Throne Room for the ruling monarch.
During the time of the Battle of Naboo, Queen Amidala used the Royal Starship to escape Naboo after the Trade Federation invasion. As her reign had only begun mere months earlier, Amidala had not yet named her ship, as per Naboo tradition. Piloted by Ric Oli�, the starship blasted away from Naboo, but was fired upon by Trade Federation battleships. Though the craft's contingent of astromech repair droids tried to fix the shield generator, the hyperdrive took a hit. Unable to reach their destination, Coruscant, the Queen's two Jedi protectors decided to land on Tatooine for repairs. They were sucessful, after a fashion, and travelled to Coruscant. From there, after gaining no help in the Senate, Amidala returned to Naboo to take the fight to the Federation. Though her ship was located by the enemy, the Queen and her party managed to take back Naboo. |
