THEED ROYAL PALACE

   Location:
Theed, Naboo
   Type: Royal palace
   Owner: King Veruna, then
Queen Amidala, then Queen Jamillia
   Inhabitants: Monarchy, royal retinue
   Debut: The Phantom Menace

Perched loftily on a cliff on the edge of the city of Theed, surrounded by flowing waterfalls, the royal palace was just as beautiful and wonderous as the rest of Naboo.
The largest structure in the city, Theed palace was the home of Theed's monarchy and government. While it had an idyllic and classical appearance, the structure was no museum; it was an important political center, being where the Royal Advisory Council had meetings, and where all of the city's major debates were settled. Many turrets and towers stuck out from the palace, each being a symbol of all the monarchs who had called the palace home. As well as this resplendant beauty, the palace also featured a network of secret tunnels, which connected the palace to various locations in the city. As buildings such as the palace hangar and Theed University were across the river from the palace itself, these tunnels proved very useful. In front of the palace was a large plaza, where parades were often held. However, after the Battle of Naboo, a new courtyard was constructed to replace an area severely bombed by the Trade Federation during their invasion of Naboo. The Palace Courtyard was designed to encourange principles of enlightened thought and practice. During this time, there were many protests by migrant workers over their work conditions, but the Naboo Palace Guard, stationed in the royal palace, took care of the problems.
Within the palace sat the Royal Throne Room, where the Advisory Council met. This room was well-guarded, and provided a magnificent view of Theed from the large, ornate window behind the throne. Various other meeting halls, as well as quarters for aides, staff and security were dotted around the palace. During the Trade Federation occupation of Naboo, Viceroy Nute Gunray took the royal palace as his own, filling it with Neimoidian aides and droid security. Luckily for the people of Naboo, Queen Amidala managed to retake Theed, and making the palace a symbol of Naboo's elegant, peaceful culture once more.
