Designed to transport Naboo royalty and officials across the galaxy, the Naboo Cruiser carried out its duty, even though its trip to Coruscant for the Military Creation Act would be its last.
Developed with the shortcomings of previous J-type starships in mind, the Naboo Cruiser had a modified hyperdrive and boosted deflector shields, yet it still kept with Naboo customs by not featuring any armaments. For protection, the Cruiser was escorted by a wing of N-1 starfighters, which could dock with recharge sockets on the ship's wings. As well as having extra defenses, the Naboo Cruiser offered extra space inside for conferances, and greater seperation of passangers and crew. The Cruiser still kept elements of the old Royal Starship, however; droids were used for repairing the ship, a throne room was built near the front of the craft, and the chromium hull of royal vessels remained. Though starships with chromium hulls were usually reserved only for Naboo royalty, Senator Padm� Amidala was allowed to continue royal protocols after her reign was over, and was granted the use of such craft.
However, Senator Amidala still needed extra protection. After landing on Coruscant on the day of the Military Creation Act vote, the Senator's Naboo Cruiser was destroyed by a bomb on the landing platform. Luckily for Amidala, she had not been travelling in the Cruiser - she had piloted one of the N-1 escorts to Coruscant, while her handmaiden Cord� posed as the Senator. This tragedy, while terrifying, hardened Padm�'s resolve to halt the creation of a Republic army before more lives were lost. |
