There are many dangerous, vicious creatures on Dagobah, and the swamp-dwelling dragonsnake is no exception, as R2-D2 found out when he was devoured by one.
Patient but insatiable, the dragonsnake lurks in water channels, hidden by Dagobah's thick mist and deep swamps, until it spies a suitable meal. When prey nears, the beast rears from the water and slashes the victim with its razor-sharp fins and vicious fangs. Prey is often knocked into the water, to be crushed in the dragonsnake's coils and finally devoured with the beast's deadly maw. While Dagobah is teeming with natural threats, dragonsnakes seem only to fear the huge swamp slug. During battles between these two creatures, the dragonsnake typically slices away huge portions of the swamp slug's body and attempts to bore inside its giant enemy. However, swamp slugs possess few viral organs and are usually victorious in these confilicts.
Through his crash-landing on Dagobah, Luke Skywalker alterted a dragonsnake in the swamp his X-wing nose-dived into. When R2-D2 tried to make it to dry land, he was grabbed by the beast and dragged underwater. Luckily for the droid, the dragonsnake didn't realise its meal was a machine, and spat him out. Artoo was sent flying into the jungle while the dragonsnake glided away to await a tastier meal. |
