If you bring your pet to Naples, then one of the first things you should consider doing is finding a suitable veterinarian. Listed below are some local animal hospitals and clinics. We cannot guarantee the quality of any of these. In Italy, most veterinarians do not make appointments. Everything is done on a walk-in basis, so you may want to arrive early in the morning. Also remember that many business owners observe a time period in the afternoon where they close shop for a rest period. This is usually done between 2:00 and 5:00 pm. It varies among the different businesses. Some do not observe it at all. If your pet has special dietary or medical needs, you may want to call the vets before coming. (Remember to dial 011-39 + the number if calling from the US. Also, you may have to drop the leading "0" from the number. That is a recent change for some cell phones.) They may not have the facilities necessary for your pet. Our dog requires a special diet. We use IVD brand dog food, which is readily available in the United States. It is very difficult to find here. In fact, we cannot find a distributor in Naples. We had to order the food online from Waggin' Tails (see the links page also) or get our friends to ship it to us. Also, our dog got extremely sick while staying in the Navy Lodge kennels in Pinetamare. The new Navy Lodge should be completed sometime in 2002, so you may have the advantage of not staying in the current one. There were several dog owners staying there who were very rude and inconsiderate. They refused to clean up their dogs' cages which resulted in unsanitary conditions. Several dogs in the kennel got sick and had to be treated with antibiotics. Again, I cannot stress the importance of knowing where the local vets are. We will try to post maps and pictures of the facilities on here later. We have not verified these directions or the information below. You will find a lot of information that is inaccurate. We will verify this and post the corrections as soon as we can. This information came directly from a brochure we picked up at the Navy Lodge.
