Here are some links that you may find useful during your stay in Naples, Italy: Note: Links on this page open a new browser window. Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples This is the official Naval Support Activity website. This site has links to ITT where you can find tour schedules. The official site for Stars and Stripes newspaper. Larry and Nichole Blankenship have created a website for tours in Italy. You can find out what tours are currently available and who's going on them. There are also pictures of the tours they've taken. (Note: The NSA web service has blocked MSN Communities, so may not be able to access it from dial-up into Capodichino or from the libraries on post.) This is an excellent website to visit if you're moving to the Naples area. We found it extremely useful during our transition here. The official website for USO. One of the best tours they offer is "Wine Tasting After Work." Check out the tours and photos page for more info. The S.I.T.E.S. database contains information on all US military bases around the world. This is probably one of the best references when you're planning a move. Telecom is the telephone company serving the Naples area. You can check here to see if ADSL is available in your area. This site is in Italian with some pages also in English. This site offers free language translation. You simply type in your text in English and the site translates it to the language of your choice. This is especially useful for communicating with your landlord if he/she doesn't speak English. This site offers foods and spices from just about any country in the world. Food stores offering non-Italian foods in the Naples area are rare. There are some Chinese food stores, but they don't typically stock Korean or Japanese items. If your pet is on a special diet, this is the site to visit. IVD brand dog food is nearly impossible to get in Naples (we've been here a year and still haven't found a retailer), so if you need it you'll have to order it online. (Hill's Science Diet seems to be very popular here in Italy). Make sure you ask about the shipping policy before ordering. It changes sometimes. If they won't ship FPO, you can always use a transfer service (like Ship It APO below). This is a forwarding service so you can receive shipments from companies that don't ship to FPO/APO addresses. You'll get your own unique stateside address. For a fee, this company forwards your packages received at that address. Considering the 2-3 day UPS delivery time and the ShipItAPO Priority Mail delivery time, you can usually get your packages within a week to week-and-a-half. Find which companies ship to APO/FPO addresses here. You can also search by product to get a complete list of vendors carrying that particular product. This site can be a little slow at times. Just try again if you cannot connect. This site has detailed information on the Naples Metro system and is an excellent resource whether you've just arrived or have been here a year. It is in both Italian and English. This site sells multi-system (NTSC and PAL) DVD players, which are great for watching your favorite movies in Italian. Italian DVDs are in the PAL format, which is incompatible with the US NTSC format. The great thing about these DVD players is that they will work on your American TVs (no multi-system required like with some VCRs). Most Italian DVDs have English, Italian, Spanish (from Spain), and German language tracks. They also have subtitles in English, Italian, Spanish, German, French, Arabic, and many other languages which really helps if you're trying to learn another language. |
