About the Founder :

Dr. Mahesh Punjabi & Dr. Sandhya Mahesh, the couple Ophthaolomogists are the founders of Kota Eye Hospital & Research Foundation and are pioneer and eminent ophthalmologists of Rajasthan. They did their Post-graduation from S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur way back in 1978-79. They laid the foundation of the hospital in the year 1987.

Presently Dr. Mahesh Punjabi besides being the Director & Chief Surgeon of Kota Eye Hospital, he's also a member of All India Ophthalmology Society, Eye Bank Association of India, Indian Intra-Ocular Implant & Refractive Society, Federation of Ophthalmic Research & Education Centres, Rotary Club (Kota Distt. 3050) and Sindhu Social Circle (Kota).

By virtue of their dedication and selflessness towards community work, they have come a long way in shaping the future of Eye Care not only in Hadoti Region but also nearby districts. Dr. Mahesh Punjabi has also been honoured :
1. by Govt. of Rajasthan on 15th Aug '95 for performing the maximum number of Cataract Operations in the Kota Distt alongwith Dr. Sandhya.
2. "Karamyogi '95 Award" by the Karamyogi Seva Samiti, Kota.
3. �Rotary International District - 3050 Award" for Best Community Project for Eye Care.
4. Invited as a guest faculty alongwith Dr. Sandhya by Lions SightFirst Hospital, Nairobi (Kenya) in May 2003 to perform Free Cataract Operations and train the faculty.

Dr. Mahesh Punjabi is pioneer in Cataract Operations with Lens Implant by Phaco technique, Eye Donations and Corneal grafting in the Hadoti Area. Since 1979, he has conducted more than 230 Eye Camps for various NGO's like Rotary Club, Kota Eye Research Centre Society (KERSC), Help-age India, etc.

The doctor couple also actively participates in many National and International Ophthalmology Conferences to keep abreast to the latest advancements in Eye Care and to provide these services to the Rural India. A few conferences to name are :
1. Annual Meeting of American Acedamy of Ophthalmology, Chicago (USA) - 1996
2. International Congress of Ophthalmology at Rome (1986), Singapore (1990), Amsterdam (1998) and Sydney (2002)
