In chapter 1 it's mostly about Separado and Gavanariel. There aren't any real battles yet.
In the first chapter, Separado gets his first lesson. He still likes to hang out with his two best friends, Eleandras and Anarion. If he is made awake by Anarion the day after his first lesson, it seems that an assassin has tried to kill Gavanariel, his tutor.
During classes he wants to ask Gavanariel some questions about his. Gavanariel explains and gives him the formula for a Ressurection potion.
A while later, after his lessons, Separado decides to pay a visit to the assassin. He tells him another story. He tells him that Separado was his target, not Gavanariel, because Gavanariel would be less strong than Separado.
He's not in the classroom, so Separado can get the feathers that he forgot to take with him. At the way back, he tries to go through a door to a secured area of the library. He is thrown back by an invisible force. Then Gavanariel comes and get him.
During classes everything gets explained by Gavanariel until someone barges inside...

There is a short flashback on the history of the Afterlife.
