TOONS ARMY MARCH ON

23.03.03                                                                                                                                      Previous Page          Next Page

I had a hunch that Newcastle would win Blackburn at St. James' Park before the kickoff on Saturday and boy was I jubilant when the Magpies did just that.  And what a fantastic result it was, Newcastle winning Blackburn by 5-1.  I could hardly believe my eyes at the New Habour Cafe (Singapore, along Tanjong Pagar Road) when the final whistle was gone.  It was a great comeback for Newcastle from our Champions League dismay loss to Barcelona on Wednesday.  I would not have wished for a better result than the 5-1 win over Blackburn.  Blackburn was wept out!

As I have mentioned in the article: We are the Underdogs, we are relishing the underdog tag and surprising lots of people with our determination to finish this season with a bang.  Depending the outcome Highbury where Arsenal takes on Everton on Sunday, the result would give us a clearer indication of our own chance at the EPL title.  Even if we do not win the title this season, we would have a big say on who is going to win it as Man Yoo still have to visit St. James' Park on 12 April 2003.  Arsenal would be thankful if we could win Man Yoo.

It is difficult to choose between Arsenal and Man Yoo to win the EPL Championship.

Arsene Wenger was arrogant when he predicted that his team should be able to win the Champions League, EPL Championship and The English F.A. Cup.  As It happened, Arsenal was dumped out Champions League by Valencia's John Carew, their campaign to win the EPL Championship is closely contest by Man Yoo and Newcastle, and Chelsea stands in their way to the F.A. Cup.  Arsenal have shown too much disrespect to the rest of the Premiership Teams.  I hope they would eat their humble pies by winning nothing at all this season.

As for Man Yoo, Alex Ferguson's men are hungry for a trophy after a barren last season.  Just as good things would come to an end, the Devils' dominance in the 90s would not been easily sustained just by having lots of pounds to spare.  The Devils soon would have to realize that cultivation of youth players would have been a better option than to splash huge sum of money in the transfer market for over-priced players.  As it has shown, Man United lost the Worthless Cup despite their superior financial resources over Liverpool FC.  At the end of the day, Ferguson and his men paid the price for being too arrogant.

No, I am not hinting that Newcastle is the best choice to lift the EPL Championship.  It would have been justice that the arrogant ones fail to win it and I want to see justice served.  Heh..heh..
