The Kokubu Family
- Kokubu Karin: Tonde Buurin's age-13 prima donna. The cheerful and active junior high school student who transforms into Buurin.
- Kokubu Shinichirou: Karin's father. The editor-in-chief of a local newspaper determined to track down Buurin.
- Kokubu Rikako: Karin's mother, a fashion designer.
- Kokubu Shuuhei: Karin's younger brother, a very dedicated fan of Buurin who knows nothing about his idol's true identity.
Students and Teachers at Sei Ringo Gakuen
- Mizuno Kouichi: Karin's classmate. The all around soccer ace who has a crush on Buurin.
- Kashiwagi Hiroumi: Karin's classmate. Kouichi's friend with occasional harsh comments. His grandmother once had the chance to become Buurin.
- Yamakawa Masami: Karin's classmate and her closest friend.
- Hidaka Kaoru: Karin's classmate. A class cutie. Also has a crush on Kouichi.
- Kuroha Keiko: Karin's bossy classmate; class prefect, and daughter to a wealthy businessman.
- Mushanokouji Takuma: Trying madly to date Karin, but Keiko has an even bigger crush on him. His family crest resembles a seal suppressing an underground devil.
- Jimmy Matsumoto: Karin's nerdy classmate. Deeply engaged with science, movies, and the solution to the ultimate puzzle of Buurin's true identity.
- Arashiyama Makoto: Karin's class master with a touching past. Has a secret crush on Nanako. Closely related to soccer.
- Tateishi Nanako: School nurse. Closely resembles Cutey Chao.
- Kondou Masayoshi: Tennis coach, big fan of Cutey Chao and Nanako-sensei.
The Pigs
- Buurin: The fat, pink, flying pig of which Tonde Buurin is all about.
- Tonrariaano the Third: Prince of Buuringo planet, also known as Ton-chan. The little immature yellow piglet comes to earth on a practice session.
- Tonrariaano the Second: The current Buuringo planet ruler. Always behind the scene.
- Kobuta, the joke tellers: Not members of the regular cast, but they appears almost every episode to emphasize a joke.
Miscellaneous characters
- Buutan: Female wrestler dressed like Buurin.
- Tatsumaki Gorou: Older school kid of another local school. As its soccer team leader, he liked to use tricks to win matches.
- Tatsumaki Hitomi: Gorou's sister and Shuuhei's classmate.
- Cutey Chao: The anime character which is the idol of Karin and Kondou-sensei.
- Kinoshita: The driver and butler of the Kuroha family. Keiko's only human-like companion.
- Kashiwagi Kosuzu: The grandmother of Kashiwagi "Junior". She declined when she had the chance to become Buurin, only to regret it 67 years later.
