Kokubu Karin is a Grade 7 junior high school student attending Sei Ringo Gakuen. She has bright red hair that she wears up as a ponytail and, like the two wisps on her sides, has curly ends that reminiscent to a curly pig's tail. Karin also wears a ribbon with a blue ball, just on top of the pony tail.

Although Karin is klutzy, she has a caring heart. Because of this she helped Ton-chan in the first place, and that made him choose Karin as Buurin, the Pig Girl of Love and Courage.

Karin has a crush on Mizuno Kouichi, but he likes her alter ego Buurin. This caused worries in Karin. Her other worries came from her father, little Shuuhei, and later Jimmy Matsumoto, who are always on her tail when she appears as Buurin.

Kokubu Shinichirou is the father of Karin. Being the reporter of a local newspaper, he is often seen toting a camera around.

After seeing Buurin in action for the first time, he is determined to track down Buurin - at least for a time. Not because he admired Buurin (like the others), but because he has an obsession with scoops, and firmly believes that anything has to do with a flying pig superhero will be a big hit.

No one has been able to figure out what "Rikako" can be translated to, so she is referenced to only as "Karin's mother", at least in the Chinese version of the comics.

Kokubu Shuuhei is the little brother of Karin. He said Buurin was looking funny when he first saw her picture, but later became Buurin's die hard fan. He does not know that the Buurin he has admired so much is his sister in disguise.
