my vitriol - a london four-piece [som, seth, carolyn, ravi] who fuse the emotional fury and brutal edge of nirvana and the deftones with my bloody valentine's ethereal sound-swirls, plus a pinch of pop-happy catchiness. that sounded so pretentious it's not even true. put simply, they're the first band i've ever come across who truly move me on every level. like isn't the word. i like other bands. my vitriol do more. album: finelines. single: grounded, out may 7th. gigs: with feeder, thru april.

the cooper temple clause - six guys from the reading area [ben, tom, didz, kieran, dan, jon] who fuck with your head. they sound like six by seven, gomez, the flaming lips, queens of the stone age, primal scream, the verve [apparently.. i don't see it] and god knows who else, all at once and not at all. live, they have the effect of a herd of inspired and very musical bison charging at you from the stage. layers and layers of sound, a tendency to swap instruments with each other onstage, and a big red cushion. album: none yet. single: the hardware ep [good luck...]. gigs: with muse, thru april.

dna doll - four guys [marc e, marc o, alrick, wayne] who assembled in london's soho to make glam-tinged, effervescent electro-rock. a plethora of london gigs and an xfm-listed debut single have brought them to the attention of rocksound magazine who've covered them several times, as well as american radio stations like the legendary kroq. album: coming soon. single: glamma glue girl. gigs: saturday 7th april @ london red eye.

snake river conspiracy - i don't know an awful lot about src. what i do know is that they're comprised of one of the dudes from third eye blind [jason] and an ex go-go dancer [tobey]; i was introduced to them by a friend who copied their album for me. aurally they're a cross between garbage and nine inch nails, with a nice line in electronic beats and searingly furious female vocals. you should really hear them. album: sonic jihad. single: no idea; their website is shit and tells me nothing. gigs: nothing uk planned in the near future [as far as i know].

miss black america - a bunch of lads [seymour, gish, mike, neil] from bury st edmonds. the euphoria of a perfect pop melody meets the perspective of pissed-off and politically-aware youth. think idlewild but unselfconscious, think feeder but undiluted, think rawk. i like them so much there'll be an entire page on them soon - yep, they're up there with my vitriol and steps; a worth accolade indeed. album: not yet - patience children. single: don't speak my mind - split single with antihero. gigs: sunday 22nd july @ the break - allday festival headlined by mba.. lots of other gigs, check the official site
