AtruaghinThe Atruaghin Barbarian class belongs to the warrior group. Barbarian characters are adept at the many skills necessary for survival in a hostile wilderness. These skills include rapid movement, use of weapons, certain "sixth senses," and many secondary abilities. Barbarians are tough and hardy and recover quickly from damage. Requirements
The baberian is considered to have no principal attribute and as such does not gain any bonus to earned experiance points. Although a barbarian can use any weapon and wear any armor, his initial choice of weapons must be made from the traditional weapons for his tribe and many of his special abilities are only available when he is wearing studded leather or lighter armor and he is using a small sheild or no sheild.
Special AbilitiesWhen wearing light or no armor and using a small sheild, buckler or not using a sheild, the barbarian gains the benefit of these special abilities:
Bonus Hit Points: Barbarians are tough and hardy fighters who learn to "roll with the punch". They gain a bonus of 2 hit points every level until 9th, and a bonus of 1 hit point every level from 10th level onwards. Armor Class Bonus: Barbarians have a "sixth sense" for danger that provides them a bonus of 1 to their armour class. This bonus increases by 1 every 5 levels, i.e at 5th, 10th and 15th. Hide in Shadows and Move Silently: Barbarians can attempt to move silently and hide in shadows when in natural surroundings. At first level they have a 15% chance to succeed. This increases by 5% per level until it reaches a maximum of 80%. When attempting these actions in non-natural surroundings the chance of success is halved. The barbarian's chance to succeed is adjusted by his dexterity and armor worn by the values found on the appropriate thief tables. Surprise: Barbarians suprise opponents on 1-4 in natural surroundings, instead of the normal 1-3 on d10. In familiar terrain this increases to 1-5.Barbarians are in turn only surprised on a 1-2 in natural surrounds and only on a 1 in familiar terrain. Back Protection: The percent chance any character or creature has to sneak up on a barbarian is reduced by 5% percent per level of the barbarian. This adjustment cannot reduce the chance to less than 5%. i.e. Slimey the Thief, with a net move silently chance of 40%, tries to sneak up on Bob the 4th level barbarian.Slimey's chance is reduced by 20 percentiles to 20%. Note that Slimey's chance is not reduced by 20% of 40%. Just take Slimey's percent chance and subtract the reduction caused by Bob's back protection. Leaping and Springing: Barbarians are able to leap up to a maximum distance of 10 feet forward, 3 feet backward, or 3 feet upward from a standing start. If the barbarian is able to move freely and get a running start, the forward leap can range from 16-21 feet (15 + d6), and the upward leap from 4.5 to 6 feet (4 +4d/2). Springing under similar conditions gives an upward distance of 4-7 feet, depending on the surface used as a step to gain height and spring. Increased Speed: A barbarian's base movement rate is 15" Weapons and proficienciesAll barbarians gain survival at 1st level, tracking at 3rd level, direction sense at 5th level, and weather sense at 7th level. They do not know how to read and write, except Children of the Bear, and must use non-weapon proficiency slots to learn how to do so. Barbarians do not receive the normal intial weapon and non-weapon proficiencies for the warrior group. A barbarian's inititial weapon and other non-weapon proficienties are dependant on which tribe they belong to. They receive additional proficiencies in the normal manner.
