Always act with respect for the school and other students

Required supplies:

            Writing instruments/ paper

3 ring binder or folder with metal clasps

Assessment and make-up assignments.

Grades in this class will be calculated as follows

Homework/In class assignments 20%

Test/quizzes 40%

Quest 20%

Notebook 20%

Homework and in-class assignments are to be completed on time.  Late work will be accepted only in the event of excused absence.  Homework assigned before the absence is due upon return, while work assigned during the absence must be turned in within two class days after return to class.

All tests will be announced at least 2 class days in advance.  Unannounced quizzes may be given occasionally to check student comprehension.  While students should endeavor not to miss test and quiz days, they have two days from their return to class to make up a quiz and exactly one week to arrange for a make-up test.  It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements.  Failure to makeup a test or quiz after the specified time will result in a zero.

The notebook is designed to be a showcase of student work and easy study tool for tests and exams.  All paper/homework/notes taken in class must be included in this notebook.  The notebook will be collected twice a quarter.  A gift notebook can be found in the classroom to help students keep track of all required papers and the order they should be in.   They can refer to this notebook to see what has been missed or to clarify their own notes.

Students must complete 1 quest per quarter. Quests are an opportunity for the student to independently explore their own interest while still learning social studies.  Examples of quests include building models, history vs Hollywood film studies, personal field trips, speeches, reports… A list of possible quests will be posted to correspond with each unit, however students may create their own quest if it is first approved by the teacher.  They may turn quests in early, but no quest will be accepted after the posted deadline (1 week before the end of the quarter).  Quests and class news will be posted in class and at www.freewebs. com/klewineland.

Not happy with your test, quiz or homework grade?  Resubmit it for a refund (an average between the original grade and the new grade).  Example:  You received a 50 on a test; you made the corrections and resubmitted a 100 percent. You now have a 75% for the test.   You must meet and follow the following conditions. 1) The original must have been completed on time, (or be an excused late).  2) Corrections must be written out completely on a separate sheet of paper, fully labeled and attached to the original.  3) Corrections must be received within 1 week of the day the original was returned.

I am pleased to welcome you all and I look forward to a terrific year in Social Studies.   Should you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Ms. Wineland
