About this course:

To learn another language is to open the door to appreciating a much larger world.  Learning the French language must be understood in this larger context.  While one will naturally learn verb conjugations and basic conversational skills, the greater purpose is to simultaneously learn to view the world through other’s eyes.  In this course, we will use our development of language skills to facilitate an appreciation of French and Francophone cultures.  We will use a balance of listening, reading, speaking and writing activities to gain a well-rounded understanding of the language and culture.

Objectives of French II:

It is the goal of this course to provide students the ability to:

Practice is essential for the further development of a student’s language skills.  It is expected that all homework will be completed on time.  It is to be complete before the beginning of class.  Homework is graded on both completion and accuracy.  Our schoolnotes.com website will list all recent assignments and topics covered within the week.

Late work will be accepted only in the event of excused absence.  Homework assigned before the absence is due upon return, while work assigned during the absence must be turned in within two class days after return to class.  While students should endeavor not to miss test days, they have a period of exactly one week to arrange for a make-up test.  It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements.  Failure to makeup a test or quiz after the week will result in a zero.

The notebook is designed to be a showcase of student work and easy study tool for tests and exams.  All paper/homework/notes taken in French must be included in this notebook.  The notebook will be collected twice a quarter.  A gift notebook can be found in the classroom to help students keep track of all required papers and the order they should be in.

Projects are designed to help students expand and explore their understanding of the language and culture.  They are required to be on time.  Each day late will result in a 50% deduction in value.  Projects and class news will be fully explained in class and there will be a posting at www.freewebs.com/klewineland.

Not happy with your grade?  Resubmit it for a refund (an average between the original grade and the new grade).  Example:  You received a 50 on a test, you made the corrections and resubmitted a 100 percent. You now have a 75% for the test.   You must meet and follow the following conditions. 1) The original must have been completed on time, (or be an excused late).  2) Corrections must be written out completely on a separate sheet of paper, fully labeled and attached to the original.  3) Corrections must be received within 1 week of the day the original was returned.

Euro Store:

You can earn euros through excellent participation in class, bringing your book, participating in French Club, turning in homework . . .  For all intents and purposes; there are three types of purchases one can make at the Euro Store: Personal Rewards, Class Rewards, and Fees/Fines. Personal Rewards are items that an individual can purchase for themselves. Once a purchase is made, the Euro is forfeit. Class Rewards can be purchased if each person in the class has a given number of Euros on any given day. Though these Euros may also be used for personal purchases, they may not be used for more than one class purchase. Class reward Euros must be redeemed 2 class days in advance of anticipated reward day. Fees/Fines are awarded for inappropriate class behaviors and must be paid the day it is earned. Euro debt may accrue. Continued debt without an effort to repay will result in a 1Euro interest rate per class. Restitution for your debt may be worked off in any of the following manners: Cleaning classroom, before/after school detention, lunch detention, infractions, demerits, written apology, additional French practice. .

Prices are subject to change and will be posted in class and on the web.

I am pleased to welcome you all and I look forward to a terrific year in French.   Should you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
