| Competency 4 The teacher understands learning processes and factors that impact student learning and demonstrates this knowledge by planning effective, engaging instruction and appropriate assessments. Explanation, Reflection, & Evidence: Teachers must understand how students learn at different levels and what instructional methods are beneficial to their learning at each level. Teachers know that modeling is necessary for students to obtain the necessary skills and concepts that are being taught. Teachers also need to be knowledgeable of practices that impact students� learning such as instructional planning and assessments. Opportunities for learning are provided through various methods such as lectures, haptic activities, and through the use of technology. Teachers facilitate the classroom and the students are engaged in the learning. Students know they are expected to think and learn and are monitored for mastery. Session 5 Book Club Discussion discusses learner-centered activities that engage students in learning concepts. Session 7 RR&D addresses engaging instructional activities that support English Language Learners in mastering concepts.
