BIG BAD TUT

New Years Day we drove down to the States and had a lovely drive down to Bellingham in the State of Washington.  The sun was shining and the temperature was a hot 15C!  We stopped in a shop and bought two pint cans of Budweiser, one for Richard and one for Gavin, Tut carried the cans to the counter and we were told in no uncertain terms that she was a minor in possession of alcohol - which is totally illegal.!  Tut Tut.  Apparently, we could have been put in jail for that!   Coming back through Customs we were questioned: Why we had been to the States?, what had we bought?, what do we do for jobs?, what was the nature of our trip to the States?, what was the nature of our vacation to Canada?,  do you own the vehicle?, did you buy any fruit or vegetables?, then 'bring the vehicle up to here', step out of it and the truck was searched!!  We felt like criminals! lol  And then to top it off, John and his mates drunk the beer - so sorry about that Richard and Gavin!!!!

and by the way a....

Glenn took this photo of a beaver eaten tree!

We have met the neighbours who have told us that there are wild coyotes in the neighbourhood who have came up to people’s doorsteps, apparently they eat the cats. When the sub-division was going in they moved a huge pile of dirt and undug a coyotes den where they found 28 cat collars!

Good Ole New Zealand !

NZ$20 = US$7.96         NZ$20 = CAN$12.01

Should have known:   Haven't been in the country a month yet and well I should have guessed and written this cost into our budget.

 You wouldn't believe it.

I was driving along minding my own business when next thing a hunk of a Canadian Mountie was standing in the middle of the road, pointing straight at me and beckoning me over.  I passed over my international and NZ drivers licence, he went to the trunk of the vehicle and started writing me a ticket!  I asked him if I had been speeding, he replied 'yes you were over the limit' - "oops' I answered so innocently.  A few minutes later he returned and said "OK Kaye, this ticket is for $173 - (a quick mental calculation = NZ$279) but this time I am only giving you a souvenir of Canada and I got away with a warning!  The thing that makes me laugh is that everyone overtakes me - especially the greyhound buses and fully laden trucks!  But there ya go, Canadian Police Officers are so lovely.
