Club Committees

Listing of Committees:

Calling Contacting Club members:
Members of the Board have formed a committee to call members who've been missing meetings.  Results have been great as some long-missing members have been showing up at meetings lately.  Welcome back!

Charities Considering charitable requests:  Craig O'Leary
The first 2001-2002 request was recently granted to Wheeling Leadership Youth in the amount of $100. Additional contributions this year have been:  $1,000 to the new Children's Museum start-up costs; $175 to the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Camp (HOBY); and $100 to the Mount de Chantal for the July VISTORY program for expenses. Many of these youth come from our Key Clubs.

In 2001 we donated $350 to King's Daughters Child Care Center to recondition a piano for their music program; $500 to Crittenton Services, Inc. to purchase child safety seats; and hosted approximately 25 Americorps volunteers at two luncheon meetings.  This is just a sampling of charitable contributions during the past year.

Club Meetings Greeting members/guests at luncheon meetings:  Maria Busick, Pam Butterworth, Mikki Dawson, Russell Dunkin, Jeremy High, Ann Koegler, Mary Ann Lokmer, Kathleen Meeker, & Jeanette Wojcik
Get acquainted with some of our newer members as they jump into club involvement by greeting and selling tickets at the door.

It's been a busy year so far for this committee as the committee has enjoined other club members in various projects shown at left.

In March we served and provided food at the Soup Kitchen on the 31st.  In April the Special Olympics was held at Wheeling Jesuit on the 27th.  And in May there is an Adopt-a-Highway on the 11th.

In February we helped celebrities deliver donuts for Easter Seals.

In November and December we conducted the Salvation Army Bellringing, Giving Tree Tags, and a children's coat drive.  See the Activities calendar for more information.

October saw our Canned Food Drive.  The canned food collection was contributed to Catholic Charities along with a $200 check from the club.

In September, 3 members participated in the AHA Heart Walk and 5 members helped with the Sunday Soup Kitchen on September 30.  Adopt-a-Highway was held on October 13 with 5 Kiwanians doing the clean-up.

Jamie Crow & Dave Ransom
Harry and Eleanor Knight retired October 1, and William "Deke" Stein has taken over the caretaker position at the Farm.  Deke has been performing longer overdue maintenance at the caretaker's residence.  Additional renovations and work has been contracted out as the residence and farm get a refreshed look.

Also we sponsored "Breakfast Serials" which were weekly chapters of a children's book "The Monkey King".  The Intelligencer was delivered to upper Ohio Valley Schools on Wednesday mornings for the enjoyment of this series.  We had a very nice ad at the bottom of each weekly serial designed by Jennifer Shelburne.
