Washington Wild Things

Recent & Upcoming Service Projects:  
Child I.D. Project June 22 at Foggy Bottom in Elm Grove 

Over 40 kids were photographed and fingerprinted.  Also weights and heights were taken.

Special Olympics Annual in April 

Over 300 kids were served dinner after their competition this year.  Many proudly wore their medals and ribbons.  Our club paid for all the food, the Pepsi was donated.

Soup Kitchen

Our Club serves hungry Wheeling citizens  at the St. Luke's (on Island) Soup Kitchen

Newspapers in Education

Breakfast Serials - the Intelligencer is delivered to all middle and high schools in the upper Ohio Valley on Wednesday mornings as part of this educational project.


During March, April and May, we  sponsored "Breakfast Serials", the Newspapers in Education stories on Wednesday mornings in the Intelligencer.  
Adopt a Highway

Be part of a team to help clean up our adopted stretch of roadway.

Our club sponsored these weekly children's stories.
The Intelligencer was delivered to upper Ohio Valley Schools on Wednesday mornings for the enjoyment of this series.  Our ad was displayed at the bottom.

Children all over the Valley watched for the Intelligencer on Wednesday mornings for the presentation of children's stories in the special article "Breakfast 'Serials'".  Our Kiwanis ad was displayed at the bottom.
   
Fresh Air Farm: Owned and operated by Kiwanis Club of Wheeling

Available for group outings

The Farm available for bookings throughout the year. Regular guests are House of the Carpenter and Habitat for Humanity.  Also the Americorps volunteers stayed there this year.

Our new caretaker is in full swing for the summer:  William "Deke" Stein.  Deke came highly recommended and we are already impressed.  Deke has lots of new ideas.

The farm is being updated and renovated, including shelters, storage and caretaker's residence.

Location:  Triadelphia, WV (15 minutes outside Wheeling in lovely natural environment.)

Soup Kitchen Coordinator

Our club is responsible for St. Luke's Soup Kitchen: coordination of groups serving every Sunday

Fr. Charles E. McCallister 4-Year Scholarship

Beginning with the May, 2001 scholarship award, each new scholarship was increased to $1,000 each year.

Four year scholarship of $1,000/year awarded to a graduating senior every year.  Applicant must be a deserving Key Clubber.  Award based on scholastic achievement and on community involvement
