Note for Minnie Grace GREGORY: She was known as Aunt Grace by her many students, but was Grandma to me.
Grandma had a lovely voice, could really tickle the ivories. She taught music to dozens of students during her lifetime. I was fascinated by stories she would tell of playing the piano for silent movies and being an "entertainer" for the first Seattle World's Fair that was held about 1908.
One of her favorite hobbies was working the crossword puzzle out of the Seattle Post Intelligencer. Grandma would make about 10 copies of each puzzle, certain that one of them had to be the winner! She was a marvelous cook and made a really scrumptious lemon pie. She was artistic, wrote poems (some published), short stories and wrote the lyrics and words to a song.
She never did learn to drive a car and claimed to be hard of hearing. However, if someone mentioned the word GO (even in a whisper), she had her hat and coat on in the blink of an eye.
Always the entertainer, Grandma loved sequins, sparkles and pretty pins on her clothes. She truly enjoyed performing, even to playing a lively rendition of Happy Birthday for me a few months before she passed away.
