| New Mobile Report Gundam W (Gundam Wing): Five young pilots are selected to participate in Operation Meteor, a plan created by citizens of the space colonies in orbit around Earth to take over the planet (or destroy it). They are each given a Gundam, a large robot-like suit made of a special metal alloy called Gundanium, to fly as part of the mission. From that point on, there are so many plots, subplots, and subsubplots that I could never fit them all here unless I made this just a Gundam Wing page. Let's just say that life takes one strange turn after another for the five young men. They are minipulated, shot at, blown up, dropped from a great height, stabbed, beaten, shot at some more, nearly suffocated, and just generally kicked around in the name of peace- AND JUSTICE!! DON'T FORGET JUSTICE!! -thank you, Wu-fei, and justice, and spend a lot of time just trying to figure out what the heck is going on in their world. There are almost as many political factions running around as there are characters, and they all have their own little agendas. The Gundam pilots are unfortunate enough to be sitting squarely in between those different agendas, and the conflicts between them make life...interesting. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This is one of the few Gundam series that I've seen from start to finish, and I love it. Pretty much anything with the word "Gundam" in the title is going to be good (there are exceptions...anyone seen any of Gundam 0083? Ick. I don't know who I want to punch most...), but this series was created to appeal to a wider audience, specifically women and men who wouldn't normally choose to watch what's essentially a war story. That's why so many of the characters are so pretty compared with the other Gundam series. ^_^ If you want to know what a bishonen is, just look at this show! It literally means "pretty boy," and this show's chock full (Heero, Quatre, Duo, etc.). There are also a few biseinen, who are slightly older (Treize, Zechs). Oh, and FYI: something that comes up with this series a lot is yaoi (male-male sexual relationships). If that doesn't appeal to you, use caution when surfing the Net, but there's nothing actually in the show itself. Okay, so anyway, I'm a total 6x9 fan (that's Zechs and Noin; most of the character's names or Gundams correspond to numbers, so when you're talking about a relationship between, say, Trieze and Lady Une, you can say 13x11 and people supposedly know what you're talking about...). I think they're my favorite anime couple, even though I can't watch them with my roommate in the house because she rants about how much Zechs looks like Mandora from Thundercats. Sigh. For other fans (and anyone who can't understand what we see in this couple), go to www.fanfiction.net and search for the author Lady Dante. Read "The Lilac Princess" and "Still Grows the Lilac," and then e-mail Lady Dante and thank her for restoring your faith in fanfiction (yes, it can be well-written!), and get down on your knees and BEG her to post the next chapter. Take a box of tissues. Do it now! ^_^ |

| Cowboy Bebop: Two bounty hunters, Spike and Jet, are bumming around the solar system in their beat-up old ship, the Bebop. In their pursuit of bounty heads, they meet up with and semi-adopt Faye, a woman without a past (but a truly enormous amount of debt, and a compulsive gambling problem), Ed, a crazy teenaged computer genius who gave herself the name Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tiruvsky IV, and Ein, a genetically engineered Welsh Corgi who seems to be more intelligent than the humans (except for Ed, of course...), as members of the crew. Eventually, however, Spike's past as a member of a large criminal organization catches up to him. It seems he had the misfortune to fall in love with the wrong woman... |

| My favorite character here is a tie between Ed and Spike...and Faye and Jet and Ein...okay, so I can't pick one! They're all wonderful! And there's another great thing about this series; it actually has a decent dubbed version! They tone down the language a little, of course, and there is at least one scene I can think of (session #8, Waltz for Venus) where they did a little creative redrawing (I don't think it really surprises anybody that a scene of two guys in bed together didn't make it past the American censors, even though the redrawing is the weirdest looking thing I've ever seen...) but the plot actually survived intact, including the ending. Kind of amazing, when you consider that the show almost didn't make in in Japan because people thought it was too violent... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
