Anime:  The Dream, The Hobby, The Obsession
Home
A lot of people will tell you that they only like one anime series.  A lot of people are lying.  That's like saying that you only like one flavor of Jelly Bellies.  Sure, Buttered Popcorn is great, but what about Juicy Pear?  I'm pretty sure my point is that I don't understand people who say they only like one series, or even one genre.  Usagi is wonderful, sure, but everyone likes to see a mecha destroy something every now and then.  Come on, admit it.  You cheer for Goku like the rest of us (unless he's fighting Vegeta, of course! ^_^ ).
Are you a crazed anime fan?
If that last paragraph made absolutely no sense to you, you don't watch enough anime.  Just to give you the basics, anime is a Japanese style of animation; the people usually have big eyes, and can often be seen with cute furry monsters, large robots, or both.  Sometimes, the cute furry monsters ARE the large robots (it gets a little complicated).  They can often transform themselves and/or the CFMs by waving a certain object around and saying a special phrase.  Here's a rundown on my favorite series, and why I like them so much.
Series:
Sailormoon (Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon)
Gundam Wing (New Moblile Report Gundam W)
Card Captor Sakura
Cowboy Bebop
Metal Angel Marie
Yu Yu Hakusho
Digimon (Digital Monsters)
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
Magic Knight Rayearth
Tenchi Muyo!
Inu-Yasha
Sailormoon:  There are about a billion Sailormoon pages out there, so I'll just give the absolute minimum.  The English dub of this show was one of the first anime series I ever saw, and I'm just glad that I kept watching anyway. ^_^  It's about a girl named Tsukino Usagi* who discovers that she can transform into the superhero Sailormoon.  Along the way she meets other girls with the same type of powers, (the Sailor Senshi), each one named after a different planet.  Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto, and Saturn help her fight evil.  They discover that in a past life Usagi was Princess Serenity, the heir of the White Moon Kingdom.  Her mother, Queen Serenity (or Selenity, if you prefer), sent the senshi and Prince Endymion, Princess Serenity's fiance, to be reincarnated on Earth 1,000 years in the future after their kingdom was destroyed.  Usagi and the other senshi gradually build their powers and grow up, until they can defeat any enemy that confronts them.  Also instrumental in the different battles are Chiba Mamoru, who was once Prince Endymion of Earth, and who can now transform into the superhero Tuxedo Kamen, and their daughter, who has traveled back from the future and whom they call ChibiUsa; she can also transform into a sailor senshi, called Sailor Chibimoon.
*Just a little note: In Japan and several other Asian countries, the family name comes before the given name; in other words, Sailor Moon's "first name" is Usagi, and her "last name" is Tsukino, not the other way around.  In some series, however, such as Gundam Wing, the characters are supposed to be of European descent, so the names are in the order more familiar to Westerners.

I think my favorite character in this series has to be Usagi.  After reading the translated manga, I have even more respect for her.  By the end of StarS, she's become the most wonderful person.  I've never seen the fifth season of the t.v. show (to be honest, the changes they made from the SuperS manga to the anime version kind of turned me off on the show for a while), but after the scene at the end of the manga where she finally realizes that the other senshi and Prince Endymion are all dead, and sees him kiss Galaxia, and she still saves Galaxia's life...okay, so I'm a sucker for sappiness.  So sue me. =^_^=
