Basic Rules
- At the beginning of the game, each player will be given six options that will be posted in their team locker room. These options may be viewed here.
- Players may only take actions utilizing one of those options. When an option is used, its gone until given another one. Please be creative and descriptive in your post. Contain the option within capital letters, stars, or bold print so that it is easily seen. (Players should also post under their name in their locker room to record which action they are taking on the field.)
- Players may only use one option per post.
- Players may post as often as they like, however, each player must wait until another player from the opposing team has posted an option before posting an option again. This does not mean that the teams have to alternate posts, or post only with actions. Three or four Ravenclaws may post in one right after another before one Hufflepuff posts as long as there isnt but one option taken in the Ravenclaws four posts.
- All actions happen in the order that they are posted. No matter if two people post without each others knowledge, the first action is accepted and the second will either need to be changed or deleted, especially if two people of the same team posted. But if they have been posted more than 10 minutes apart, I may consider it as intentional and call a penalty.
Do's and Don'ts
- Players DO need to post for your team under 'Attendance' even if the game is already underway.
- Players DO keep your posts interesting and in character. There will be a separate topic for OOC questions. Any post with OOC chatter in the game topic will be deleted along with action, with the exceptions of a captain directing a player to the locker rooms or whatever.
- Players DO post under your name in the locker room each time you use an option on the field. This will enable both you and I to keep quick track of your options.
- Non-Teammates DO NOT post on the field, but only on the sidelines. You would hate to be banned from the Quidditch games.
- With that said, players DO NOT post on the sidelines.
- Players DO NOT take options that you don't have. Failure to do so will have you grounded for 24 hours. Second offenders will be off the team.
- DO NOT add a new topic.
- DO NOT post after a timeout has been called by a team captain, with only the 10 minute exception.
Bludgers, Rams, and Penalties
Bludgers
When a player is endangered by a Bludger, he may not take any other action until he can either dodge the Bludger or until a beater knocks the Bludger away from him. If the player posts any other action, the action is still successful, but the player is then hit. A player has 12 hours to deal with a Bludger threat. If the Bludger has not been taken care of before that time, the player is hit by the Bludger and taken out of the game for the next 10 hours, with the exception of seekers, who are only out of the game for 6 hours. Teams may not put in a substitute player to cover that position.
The Bludgers are named Pain and Suffer in a desperate attempt to keep track of them. Beaters must specify which Bludger they are hitting. Please try to keep the two of them straight. The game gets confusing enough as it is.
Ramming Attacks
I know that rams are not supposed to be legal, but they are on this site at certain times. Here's who may be rammed and when:
- a chaser who is in possession of the quaffle
- a keeper whose team has the quaffle
- a seeker only after the snitch has been spotted
- a beater any time
Other than that, I will call a penalty for unnecessary roughness. A target of a ramming attempt has 12 hours to dodge. If they are unable to dodge because they have no option to block, they might as well say that they got hit or play another action, and then get hit. A player who has been rammed is out of the game for 10 hours, with the exception of seekers, who are only out for 6 hours. Teams may not put in a substitute player for that position.
Taking a Hit
A player who is endangered by any source of attack may ignore that danger and play an option as if not endangered. However that player then gets hit full force by whatever was coming his/her way and will be out of the game for 12 hours. This applies to Seekers as well.
Penalty Goals
I can call for a penalty shot for a lot of reasons from unnecessary roughness to team members posting on the sidelines.
The window to both make and block a penalty goal is only six hours after it has been called. Any chaser from the appropriate team may pick up the Quaffle and attempt to make the goal as long as they have an 'attempt goal' option. The keeper must be able to block the goal, using a 'deflect' 'catch' or 'steal' option, within that same 6 hour window. (That means if I call for a penalty at 12:00 EST and the chaser takes the quaffle and attempts goal at 14:00 EST, the keeper only has two hours to block the attempt.) During a penalty shot, the seekers and the beaters may continue with any actions that do not interfere with the chaser or keeper involved in the penalty goal. Penalty goals, like regular goals, are worth 10 points.
In addition to calling for a penalty shot to be made, I also will ground a player for any of the following offenses:
- Trying to take two actions in one post. (Neither action will count and will be deleted from the options currently available to that position).
- Trying to take an action for which you don't have an option.
- Including out of character chatter in a post on the game field. Not only will I ground you, but I'll delete that post (including any action it might have included).
- Posting a second action without waiting for an opposing player to post in between your two actions.
- Continuing to play after a team captain has called a time out. Unless the time out is called while another player is posting (I will give up to 10 minutes, after that, I will consider the action as purposely).
A player who is grounded is out for 24 hours, including the seeker. The team can put in a substitute player to cover that position. A second grounding offense will have you off the team.
Team Captains
Team captains will be chosen by their teammates or by a house head. They have the following responsibilities and powers:
- They make replacements for their team's players if players cannot make a game, fail to show up, or get kicked out of the game.
- They and they alone may direct a player to the locker room in the course of the game. Other players may use the OOC topic to do this.
- They may call a time out in the game if they feel an action was illegal (two actions in same post, failure to wait for opposing team to post) or if they feel there should have been a foul (ramming a Seeker who hasn't spotted the Snitch, ramming a Chaser who doesn't have the Quaffle, ramming a Keeper when their team isn't in possession.)
- They will call a time out immediately after any special action is taken.
