KINGSLEY, IOWA ~ CHURCH HISTORY ~
First Methodist Service or Any religious service was held in 1864 in the Higday School house. Services provide by the Lemars Circuit of the Methodist Church Rider , C.W. Batchelor

First Methodist Church built was in 1887 -1888.  later to be sold and moved when replaced ba larger, more up - to - date dwelling.
First Congregational United Church of Crist was orginized on Feburary 14, 1886, at the Home of Mr, & Mrs George Willhoite by the Rev. D.E. Skinner.

In the Summer of 1887 the congregation built a frame building on the corner of Main and Third Streets, marking it as the first church for this religion.
First Catholic service was held back in 1884 by Father Gilchrist.  who was a pastor from Marcus. In 1885 Rev. W.J. Halphin of Early drove by horse and buggy to hold mass in the skating rink once a month.

The first Kingsley parish was builldt in 1888, the Saint Michaels Catholic Church.  And at this time the parish bought one acre of ground at the south end of town for the cemetery.
The first service was conducted by Rev. M.M. Teirney.  The original Church was replaced by the new brick structure ( still in exsistance and used ) in 1913.  This was buidt just north of the founding frame structure .
The Church of the Brethern religion came to Kingsley in 1884.  They meet in school houses untill a church was built in 1893 in Elkhorn Twp on the southwest corner od 17-90-44.  They also built a Church two mile west of Pierson on the south corner of sectio 4-89-43 in Rutalnd Township.  These two churches kept in cloe contact and in 1926, the east and the west churchs united in Kingsley.  They rented the Free Methodist Church across from the City Park.    The Church of the Brethern buildt a new church of their own in 1946.

The first speaker of the Brethern Faith was not mentioned in the Kingsley History book but the Charter Members of the west chuch were.: Elder and Mrs J.W. Throstle, Mr & Mrs. Samuel Homer, Elder and Mrs. A.D Nicodemus, Mr. & Mrs. Hockenberry, Mrs. Faulkender, Liza and Mary Faulkender, Elders J.W. Trostle and A.D Nicodemus where the early Ministers.

The Church of the Brethern Cemetery is the resting place to many early fellowers and is located in Garfiled twp., sect. 33, just in over the Plymouth County Line.
The first Luthern services were conducted in Kingsley in the fall of 1934 by the Rev. E. Witkopp, Secretary of the Missions of Iowa Ditrict West of the Luthern Church - Missiouri Synod.  and by Rev. Richard Torgler of Hinton, IA.

The first Chapel was completed by the end of 1936
Kingsley Bible Church held it's first sunday service on Feb. 11, 1970 and Dr. David Harder of Dallas Theological Seminary was called upon to be the first Pastor for the summer of 1970.  Pastor Eugen Linn became the first full time minister in Jan 1971.

Land was purchased in Dec. 1970 for the area for which the first church was to be....The congregation bought the first church from an auction near Merril, IA. and had it moved to it's land in Sept. 1972.
The first Presbyterian Church of Union, Twp. was originized on Feb. 19, 1890 at the home of Mr. & Mrs. R.G. Smith.  Rev. T.S. Bailey. the stnod. missionary, and Rev. D.W. Fahs, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Lemars,IA. , preside at the metting.


Record indicate taht Rev. James started sunday school in the early eighties.  Later, circuit riders held services in the area, also.  The McCartney School was used for a meeting pland and Sunday School was hel each Sunday.

The exact date of the church building is now known, but it's dedication was held on Oct. 5, 1890.
