The Year Iowa became an official State was 1846

Woodbury County ( est. in 1853 ) gave part to Plymouth County in October 1959

Lincoln Township gave part to Elkhorn Twp. - needed research yet 


Four Familes of Higday are given the honor of being the first to settle in the north-west corner of the township.  The exact date is not known, but we do know that the first school in the township was taught by Al Higday in 1868. 

In 1868 the first Religious Services where held at the Higday School by Rec. C.W. Batchelor

In 1872 the First Marriage was that of Arthur Dufty and Wife , name is not mentioned or any mention of the Dufty Family settling in the township.

In 1876 Charles Bullis bought land in section 26. This area would soon be known as Garfield Township

Other Earlier Settlers of Elkhorn are: George Evans, John and Mike Trow, Mr. Mann, Hugh Mason, J.J. Edwards, P.J. Ward, S. North, Henry Addington and man named Cain.

History is the village of Quorn, found along with the Heacock Mill and Close Brother Ranch in section 25 of Elkhorn Township.
