News: Last Update: 2nd November 2008 Sadly it seems that King of the Hill has been cancelled. This is from the comedy website Chortle: "Fox has cancelled King Of The Hill after 13 years and nearly 260 episodes; saying the current series will be the last. However, some of those working on the show refuse to believe it is actually over. It has been cancelled before, only to be recommissioned; while Fox has also reversed previous decision to axe Family Guy and Futurama. We've been here before, executive producer John Altschuler told Variety. When its time for King Of The Hill to go, it will go. But I think with the ratings this good, and with quality that doesn't seem to be diminishing, it would be very odd for King Of The Hill not to keep going. The programme is the second longest-running primetime animated show in history, behind The Simpsons. Fox has recently commissioned new animated comedies The Cleveland Show a spin-off from Family Guy and Sit Down, Shut Up." It's not too late to save the show though - we'll be setting up a campaign soon, but in the meantime, please get in touch with Fox and tell them (in a polite manner, mindless abuse will be ignored) how much you love the show and why it should continue. You can find their contact details at: http://www.fox.com/home.htm or - and this is what we advise as a written letter is taken far more seriously by studio execs - send a letter to: Peter Liguori President of Entertainment FOX Broadcasting 10201 West Pico Blvd. Building 100, Room 4450 Los Angeles CA 90035 Sorry for the lack of updates of late btw, they will be much more regular from now on. 17th February The new episode, "Untitled Blake McCormack" is set to air tonight, unless it's pulled from the schedules at the last moment, but hopefully that shouldn't happen. After that, the next episode that will be shown is "The Accidental Terrorist", which will go out on March 2nd. Plot details / spoilers are below in invisiotext (just highlight it to read): When Peggy needs a new car, Hank insists they buy from Tom Hammond (Ted Danson) his go-to salesman for 25 years. With her heart set on a convertible, Peggy begins the negotiation behind Hanks back and gets the price down considerably. Hank catches her and agrees to buy the convertible, provided he can make the deal himself. Tom jacks the price back up to sticker and tells Hank hes getting a deal. When Peggy discovers how much Hank paid, she realizes hes been swindled on every car hes ever bought. She tries to keep Hank from finding out, but he does and becomes disillusioned and depressed. When he confronts Tom on all the years of lies, Tom says that hes a salesman and its what he does. To exact justice, Hank places flyers reading Tom Hammonds World of Lies! on the cars in Toms lot early one morning. He is joined by a group of radical college students, one of whom he met in the copy shop the day before. As Hank drives away, the students blow up a number of cars. Hank is arrested since he was the only person on the surveillance tapesthe students dressed in black and crawled on the groundbut Tom Hammond doesnt press charges. He tells Officer Brown (Fred Willard) that if Hank Hill looks you in the eye and says he didnt do something, he didnt do it. The truth is Tom doesnt believe Hanks innocence, but knows Hank would fight the charges, which would mean bad publicity for Toms dealership. 15th February More Staff Bio's are online, you can see them here. The writer's strike is now finally over (Yay!), so we should get the full amount of episodes commissioned last year. Er, and that's about it for now, expect more updates soon though. Obligatory forum link: http://kingofthehillfansite.freeforums.org/ 11th February The new episode, Trans-fascism, finally aired this week, for the plot summary, screen grabs and a review of the episode, click here. Also new on the site is the Staff Bio's page, a guide to all of the writer's, directors and producers who have contributed to the show, there's only a few up right now, but expect more soon, and also now online is a review of the first season Koth dvd release by new contributor Henry Rampel. The writer's strike didn't end this weekend as expected, unfortunately, but a vote is taking place tomorrow (Tuesday 12th February), so hopefully within the next 48 hours or so it will finally be over. Finally, another new episode, which is still untitled, should air next Sunday, the 17th, for plot details check out the 28th of January update. 9th February 2008 According to the official myspace page, a new episode (Trans-fascism) is still set to air tomorrow night at 8.30pm, so hopefully it won't get bumped at the last moment again. There's lots of positive news circulating around the media news site's suggesting that writer's strike could be over by the end of the day, which is a big relief, obviously, and should mean we get to see a full season of King of the Hill (that said, the strike only meant one episode would not have been made). For more info, check out Variety. And finally for this update, Mike Judge has created a new animated sitcom, The Goode Family, which is set to air on the ABC network. Here's zap2it.com's report on the story: "ABC has picked up an animated series from "King of the Hill" co-creator Mike Judge, even though not a word has been written yet. The network has ordered 13 episodes of an animated comedy called "The Goode Family" from Judge ("Office Space," "Idiocracy") and fellow "Hill" veterans John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. The show is being produced by Media Rights Capital, which recently signed an interim deal with the Writers Guild that will allow scripting on the show to begin. It hasn't yet, however -- ABC bought the show based on a pitch, the showbiz trade papers report. In a normal year, that would be a pretty rare occurrence, but the writers' strike is causing networks to shake up the way they order new product. "The Goode Family" will tell the story of a family that's obsessed with doing the right thing, politically, socially and otherwise. It being a comedy, their good intentions tend to have unforeseen consequences. As he does on "King of the Hill," Judge will also provide voices for some of the characters on "The Goode Family." ABC's recent history with prime-time animation has been spotty, to say the least. The network last tried its hand at the genre with "Clerks," which lasted only a few weeks in the summer of 2000; prior to that, it aired the first season of "The Critic" in 1994-95." 28th January 2008 Frustratingly Fox decided to pull the new episode of King of the Hill on Sunday, and that episode, Trans-Fascism, won't air till the 10th February now. We have no idea why this happened, and unfortunately can't find out any information on it either. At least it means that we'll get two episodes in two weeks though, as another new episode (which wiki refers to as "Untitled Blake McCormack") is scheduled to air on the 17th February. Plot spoilers for it are below, in invisio-text (highlight the text if you wish to read it). Bill becomes involved with a single mother, Charlene (Clarke) who has returned to Arlen after being away for some years. When Charlene introduces her two children to Hank, Dale and Boomhauer, Dale immediately dislikes her oldest, Kate. He confides in Hank that he thinks something is wrong with Kate and that he intends to get to the bottom of it. Hank tells him to leave it alone but Dale steals a sample of Kates hair and orders a DNA analysis. When the test discovers similarities between Kates DNA and Josephs, his son, and realizes that they are half-siblings. He hypothesizes the same aliens that impregnated Nancy also impregnated Charlene with his genetic material to start a Dale-based master race. Not wanting Bill to raise his daughter, Dale tries to sabotage his relationship by asking John Redcorn to seduce Charlene. John soon realizes that Charlene is a woman he slept with years ago, although he knew her only by her stage name. One last thing for now - US Facebook members can watch any episode from the 12th season of King of the Hill here: http://apps.facebook.com/fubuhulu/show.php?sid=114 - I'm not sure if people from any other countries can, but unfortunately the link definitely doesn't work for those based in the UK. 15th January 2008 Frustratingly only seasons 1 - 6 are available on dvd at the moment, but the official King of the Hill myspace page has set up a petition in the hope of persuading Fox it's worthwhile releasing more - it only takes a second to sign, so please do so! The link is: http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/kingofthehilldvd - Also, if you live in the US they encourage you to call Fox Consumer Relations at (888) 223-2369. This forthcoming Sunday sees another re-run, but as mentioned below, a new episode will air on the 27th. We've lots of behind the scenes stuff going on at the moment, so whilst it may look like the site's a bit quiet expect lots of stuff to go online soon, and in the meantime, why not get chatting on the forum, you never know, it might be fun! 9th January 2008 Here's a couple of links to You Tube videos that you'll hopefully find interesting: This is Mike Judge's pencil drawn animation that he used to pitch King of the Hill to Fox back in 1996 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaB9NZyiphM David Letterman Interviews Mike Judge about Beavis and Butthead - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2N_5KjAleg "That's My Purse" - Clips from one of our favourite episodes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp1JPPFVWIw 8th January 2008 The latest episode of King of the Hill, Doggone Crazy, aired last night on Fox in the US, and for us it was another fantastic episode. For the plot summary and screen grabs from the episode, which contain mild spoilers, please click here. The next scheduled episode is Trans-Fascism, which will air on the 27th of January 2008. The plot is below in inviso-text and contains mild spoilers, highlight the text if you wish to read it. When the Arlen City Council bans the sale of foods containing trans fats, Sugarfoots Restaurant goes out of business. Hank, who feels the ban is an infringement on freedom, encourages Strickland to fix things. Stricklands solution to the problem is to sell his delicious, trans-fatty foods on a lunch truck so he can evade the law. Bribery and police corruption ensue, and Hank begins to have second thoughts on his activism to repeal the ban. However, before he can back out, a rival lunch truck (Roosters Roost) terrorizes the Sugarfoot truck, and a turf war develops. The fierce competition convinces Hank to stay on board with Sugarfoots until they can shut Roosters down. With the help of a reporter, Hank puts his best investigative skills to the test and becomes determined to unearth evidence to bring Roosters down and show the city council that sometimes the world just needs tasty, unhealthy fare. These are some of the other new upcoming episodes, though we currently don't know when they'll air: Three Men and a Bastard Cops and Robert Life: A Loser's Manual Lady and Gentrification Behind Closed Doors Abraham, Martin, John, and Bobby Hill About the site: I've been an avid viewer of King of the Hill for the last ten or so years, but being based in the UK I've not been able to watch the newer episodes due to the way it's appalling scheduled by Channel Four. But after breaking my leg last January (it's a long story), I managed to track down all of the latest series and gradually I fell in love with this beautifully subtle but often hilarious show. So I was pretty amazed that there isn't a currently regularly updated fan site devoted to it, and despite the fact that I really should be spending my time doing more productive things, I thought I'd set one up. This is the very first update of the site, and very much a beta version of it. The look and the format will change soon, and we'll have a lot more content in the weeks and months to come, as well as a message board and all the usual fansite malarky. Help Needed: If you'd like to contribute to the site, it'd be greatly appreciated. From extolling the virtues of the show, reviews of current episodes or old ones you love, or anything else you'd like to write about the series in general, please send us an email at: [email protected] - we'd love to hear from you. |
