1. Interpretation of the text, spine, figure out what drmatic question is and style of presentation
2. Develop Production Concept/ Directorial Pt. Of View - how you want to communicate

• decide what YOU want to convey; embodies spine and implements style

1. Pick the means that best communicates your concept/view (actors, dialog, scenery, etc)
2. Work with Designers - costumes, scenery, lights, sound
3. Cast Actors based on their qualities - you most want to emphasize body shape and size
4. Rehearse the actors - beats, stage picture, movement, voice and speech
5. Integrate all elements into a finished product

1. Ask yourself what you wish to communicate

• "Hamlet's world is like a prison" à form concept

1. concept - defines focus, acts as an organizational guide or measuring stick for all artistic choices
2. period, central image, purpose ß develop concept

• take a play written in another period and set it in another period

Rehearsal

• Beats - human events that define a scene; changes in desire tactics, stimuli
• Class guest tried to get a girl to give him a pen, when she didn't he changed his tactic
• Environmental stimuli - new person enters or leaves

• how to create focus on stage - who on stage is talking is taking focus, tells who to look at
• movement - moving from place to place, body language, facial expression, and attitude give emphasis and cause the audience to look at that person
