Duality of an actor - always in 2 places at the same time
- in performance
- in the there and then that he is acting
Theatre is completely perceived through the senses
Concentration - important for juggling 2 things
Believability - most important
- action and reaction
- not mechanical, have to make it look like it's happening for the first time ("Illusion of the first time")
- "pinch and squeal"
Irving Gothman - "The Presentation of Self In Everyday Life" - book
Can you be a good actor if you're a good actor in life?
- motivation
- you have your own motivation in life and are likely to be more motivated to do something for yourself in real life than when you are acting
- reacting
- bigger for stage than it is in real life
Group Acting Project
- improvisation - talk
- sitting with legs/arms crossed - closed off physically - lack of self confidence
- you don't need words to have an internal experience, but you must externalize it so the audience can see
- try to look realistic
Two types of Acting
- Inside Out - psychological - trying to feel what the character feels and acting accordingly
- imagination
- concentration
- knowledge of psychological self
- Outside In
- physical - thinking of how the character would act and letting the actions affect your emotions
- observation
- control
- knowledge of physical self
This was in my notes, I've no idea why:
- Believability
- Illusion of the 1st Time
- Unique Expression and Investment
