MY FAN FICTION
Well, this is it, my own little fanfic library, located deep in the ocean surronding my little kingdom. This is where - hopefully- I will be putting up all my stories about pretty much everybody. Currently there's only 2 up so far 'cause they're the only ones typed at the moment, probably because I spend too much time reading everyone else's stories. This is by no means an indication of what my future stories will be.
Click the bird to read this story I penned with my roomy in the first year of college. Be warned- many a late night was spent writing this and there were many times we had to stop for fear we'd have a heart attack from laughing. We thought it was incredibly funny when we did it. Whether it really is is another question entirely.

A FEW NOTES ON FAN FICTION
For those of you what don't know, fan fiction is a writing genre all on its own. It's fans writing stories about their favourite characters from TV, movies or books. The great thing about fan fiction is that the sky is the limit. You can create new universes for the characters, transplant them into other universes or combine different shows in cross-overs. Whatever your favourite show or movie is, there's probably somebody out there writing new stories. When I started reading fan fiction, way, way back in my youth of about four years ago, I started with the Dukes of Hazzard, because that was my obsession - I couldn't get enough! Now, though, I'm into the Magnificent Seven, Batman, the Hardy Boys and Lord of the Rings and I barely have time to get my own stories written and typed. But I love every minute of it and couldn't quit even if I wanted to, which I don't. I've even (very successfully) gotten two room-mates and my mother hooked! There are a lot of great writers out there and a lot of really good stories. Check it out!
MY OWN PREFERENCES
As I said, there are a lot of good stories out there. There are also ones that I don't enjoy, but these are my own preferences, so don't think that what I like or dislike is the final word. But, there are certain things I don't read and certain things I really, really like. My pet peeve is unfinished stories, especially those that remain unfinished for looooooong periods of time. I know, I know, sometimes writer's block hits at the most inopportune times. And sometimes, stories just run out of momentum. The truth is, I have a lot of stories that are unfinished. But they're not posted are they? I like cross-overs, the weirder the better. As long as both sets of characters are doing what they normally do and not being out of character, the more the merrier. I normally don't read smut or slash. These both involve explicit sexual content and I just don't want to be reading that in a school computer lab. I dislike most slash because I don't like to share my guys with anyone else and especially not with some other guy. There are a few stories that I like that are slighty slash, but for the most part I steer clear of it. I love hurt/comfort stories and if their mildly slash (i.e. just a hint of sexual tension) then I can live with that. And the more you hurt my favourite character, the more I like it. I don't know why that works but that's usually the way it goes. I guess you only hurt the ones you love. I'm not fond of added characters, except bad guys and one story type deals. I especially don't like added female characters like wives and girlfriends. I'm greedy, what can I say. I used to not like alternate universes but the Magificent Seven seem to scream AU, probably because of that idea of linked souls, etc, etc. Either way, M7 has changed my mind about alternate universes, as long as the characters remain essentially the same. Having said that, I really love rewritten episodes, like the pilot episode of the seven, written into an alternate universe. When done well, it really accentuates the similarities between the original version and the AU. Sometimes, too, they give someone else's view on the show and give deeper insight into a character (at least from their point of view). Of course, even if I don't like something, doesn't mean I won't write it. Sometimes the stories need to be written and they won't get out of your head until you write it down (kind of like the last song you heard on the radio playing incessantly in your head all day). And just because I don't like it doesn't mean I won't read it someday, when I'm really bored and need a Vin/ Legolas/ Hardy Boys/ Nightwing/Jesse fix (come to think of it, don't you think that would make an interesting cross-over?).

FANFICTION: A DICTIONARY
Below are a few terms used when describing fanfiction. This is by no means all of them and they're my own definitions, based on my understanding of the artform. If you think I missed something, or you have questions, don't hesistate to ask: [email protected] Slash: a pairing of male/male or female/female, especially when said relationship was not present in the original story. Example: Aragorn/Legolas or Vin/Chris Cross-over: a story combining two different shows, movies or books and including characters from each. Example: X-Files/Mag7 or X-Files/Dukes Alternate Universe: a story placing characters from a show in a setting different to the original or altering the storyline of the original to allow a story to take place. Example: killing Vin in a new version of the premiere episode or the ATF Mag7 universe created by Mog. OOC: Out of Character. When a character is doing something he normally wouldn't do, that seems somewhat out of character, then this abbreviation could (and should) appear to warn you. Hurt/Comfort (h/c): a kind of self-explanatory term referring to stories in which someone gets hurt and someone else comforts them. Angst: mental anguish, an emotionally charged story OMC: Original Male Character, a story that revolves around an original male character would be labelled with this, (wow, that one was hard) OFC: Original Female Character, see OMC Deathfic: Pretty self-explanatory, this involves the killing of a main character Mary Sue: Ahh, the infamous Mary-Sue. Basically a self-insertion romance with your favourite character. Almost universally hated by readers.
