the lyrics:
i've the sun for the spoken word
and you're obscene but never heard
you couldn't do your hair
you couldn't do your job
you couldn't liven us up
with the cattle prod
but here you come like
i knew you would
do i just love you 'cause
you look quiten good
and here you come,
are you the happy boy
or are you just another,
are you just another one more
because we step the step behind
because we kiss in time
because we love our kind
because we're wonderful sometimes[...]

::::: BE MY GOD :::::

7" label RML 001/002, 1990

lyrics: this is the age of
the high heeled protege
lift off your flesh
for nature's honest games
twisting round the
roundabout around everybody
hey i'll be your dog, be my God
come on, come on,
have me, grab me [...]
twist me round the roundabout
higher high strip me out
take my body crawl inside
kiss this battered
bones that's mine...

BREAK THE LAW

you can find a review (and not a good one i was told) in melody maker June 1990.

CARRY ME, MARRY ME

same as above

::::: DIESEL :::::

it was meant to appear on the first album but
Brett never really got to write the lyrics.
i've got a live recording of it which is the only
time they played it in front of an audience.
Brett actually sings on this one but through a
magaphone and you can't understand the words.
it kind of sounds like the 'rap' of Stay together.

::::: NATURAL BORN SERVANT:::::

played at the first ever suede gig in 1990.
i've got one sample of 55 sec.
and another one of 26 sec. feat. Justine on vocals taken from the dvd unscene
This is the way we are, naturally this way
Cant find the sunshine
Just a spot away again
This ones sent to try us here
This ones sent to say
This is the pillage(?)
This is the grass(?) grown(?) way(?)
Say what you want say what you want me this time
Do do-do do do
Say what you want say what you want me this time
You're a natural born servant
This is the time to open your eyes

JUSTICE

same as above, played at the first gig.

::::: SHE'S A LAYABOUT :::::

i've got a sample of 1 min. taken from the dvd unscene
the lyrics:
Hot for the shot and the policemans lot
You keep the doubt in you outside
Hug hug for his mum and dad
It deviates from time to time
Too young too old she has been told
About the things we all have to do
So what if you love your job
They're gonna hit you with it real soon
Oh come in come in come inside
Summer hot there comes a rot
I think that they are changed
Well tut tut tut shes a layabout
She'll come and she'll come again
Tut tut tough(?) hes a layabout
and they come and they come and they come and they come...

THE LABRADOR IN YOU

some words were re-used for 'moving': she's got a big black dog in her...

::::: MAID IN LONDON :::::

the song was dropped when Simon joined the band.
therefore the recording i have could be either live at
London Camden Falcon on May 29th 1991 or Aug 2nd 1991.

::::: GOING BLONDE :::::

re-used by Justine for her band Elastica.
the lyrics:
see that animal get some heavy metal
watch the world go singing sha-la-la-la
white sticks happiness, will we ever know
how it feels, i feel your tatoo on mine
but i can't wash it off this time,
oh Terry, Terry you're going blonde
see that drug act, that AC/DC drag act
on the wires in the sky tonight
15 new cities, but will we ever know
how it feels, i feel my tatto on you,
it's a sweet thing Terry,
but it's not true, oh Terry.

::::: THE BIKE TRAGEDY :::::

actually this is 'to the birds' with different lyrics

::::: WE BELIEVE IN SHOW BIZ :::::

originally intended as a B-side but later dropped
written by Brett and Bernard
The Lyrics:
It ain't that hard to find it,
It ain't that hard at all,
It aint that hard to see whats on the wall,
From Madagascar to Europe,
They never get known at all,
It aint too hard to see whats on the wall,
Cuz we believe in showbiz,
We Believe it all,
We believe in showbiz
It ain't that hard to find it,
It ain't that hard at all,
It aint that hard to see whats on the wall,
From the Eastern Block to Suburbia,
They never get known at all,
It ain't too hard to see what's in the world.
Cuz we believe in showbiz,
We Believe it all,
We believe in showbiz
Cuz we believe in showbiz,
We Believe it all,
We believe in showbiz
etc...

:::::STAY TOGETHER early studio take:::::

the verse is totally different (music and lyrics), the chorus is the same.

::::: GUATEMALA :::::

another version of 'duchess'.
Apart from 'duchess now you're one of us',
the lyrics are different (...she sits and laughs at the photographs...)
The arrangement is completely different.

::::: REFUGEES :::::

performed live only once in Iceland (2000)
The lyrics:
standing at the traffic lights, threading through the hostile cars,
staring with our almond eyes, not allowed in certain bars,
we are all refugees, drifting through doorways,
walking the streets, seeking asylum,
safe from desease, we are all refugees...

::::: MUSIC LIKE SEX :::::

new track played during the last tour
The lyrics:
music like sex you like to have sex to
who will buy this false alarm
who will buy this emotion
who will exchange their body parts
kissing magic in motion
who will suspend their common sense
who will exchange their violence
consumed in hate
the music connects me, let the music connect you
the music selects me, the music connects me to you
and it's calling me ...

::::: I DON'T NEED A HIGH :::::

I've got a 1 min sample

I got Marlon Brando
I got the sad sad sound of rain
Got atomised
Got animal rights
I got books that spin my brain
I got Lillian Grey
I got things that make me feel alive
Got 2 on 2
I got Albert Camus
I got songs that make me cry
I don't need a high to get me by
I don't need a high to make me cry
I don't need a high to feel alright
I don't need a high to satisfy
And I don't need a high to see the light
I don't need a high to sleep at night
I don't need a high to touch the sky
I don't need a high
I don't need a high
