Olivia couldn't get the image out of her mind. It had stayed with her for days, was with her when she was awake, asleep, working or relaxing it waited at the back of her mind for the most unlucky moment to jump
to the forefront of her thoughts. She was talking to someone about something perfectly innocent and she flashed on her lover's body splayed against the wall, elbows denting the plaster and the expression of pained joy on her face. She would be forced to pause, shut her eyes to clear her mind and apologise to whomever she was supposed to listening to. She had not expected to be haunted.
She found herself in the washroom splashing cold water on her face in an attempt to chase the image away as soon as the conversation finished but the image lurked behind her eyes and she had the full view of her as she looked down, her own hand as she took one thigh and rested it on her shoulder, running her fingers up the inside to her outermost lips and she heard the groan the touch had caused in heard as loudly as if
it were echoing through the tiny washroom.
It had been days since they had spent a night together and even though there was no talk that usually surrounds dating, at night they had tended to find each other, whether by luck or design. Their schedules would converge enough for one of them to suggest getting together; sometimes they would eat first, ordering take-out or stopping at a restaurant as they went to her apartment and even while they were eating it was simply a prelude to sex. Foreplay with forks and pasta and red wine. Now that it had been three days since she had seen her, Olivia found herself dwelling on the image of her naked against the wall. She could almost taste her on her tongue as she left the washroom and walked back to her desk.
But she fought it. She knew she was reluctant to define what they were doing and imagined Casey felt the same way. Convenience had allowed them to come this far but Olivia was wary of pushing any farther into something more than casual. She questioned her own motives for allowing herself to become involved with yet another ADA: conveniently close and deadly attractive, no need for explanations of how awful work could be at the end of the day. It had become a familiar pattern for her. But she questioned if it was one she should break.
Her desk was covered in the usual assortment of files and photos and she saw Elliot was leaning back in his chair, grinning.
"Casey Novak just called," he said.
"Yeah? She need something?"
"To talk to you apparently. She asked you to stop by her office on your way home."
