Worthy played for Grier Junior High in his freshmen year. During his senior year at North Carolina, he led his team to the NCAA Championship in 1982. He received national Player of the Year honors and selected as the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player. He skipped his last year at North Carolina and was the first to be picked by the Lakers. He was one of the three talented trios in his first season with the Lakers. He was given the MVP award from the 1988 NBA Finals. He was a member of the three NBA championship Laker teams (1985, 1987, and 1988). He got a triple-double in the 1988 NBA Finals playing against Detroit. He received 36 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Worthy retired in 1994. He scored 16,230 career points and ranked one of the top 10 on the NBA's all-time playoff list for career postseason field-goal percentage, which was 54.
