Overview

The Human Powered Challenge is Kiwi HPV's premier event. Its open to both individual HPVers as well as to teams of riders. The Challenge is made up of three separate events: a drag race, a cargo race and a one hour endurance race. Competitors can enter all three races or select to enter just one or two.

Schedule

This year the HPC is being held on the afternoon of Saturday 3rd October with a Barbeque and prize-giving after the racing.  Note if racing is rained out, the whole event will take place on the morning of Sunday 4th October.

The race schedule begins late on the Saturday, to accommodate those travelling from further afield for the event. If rain-delayed to the Sunday, then it starts earlier to allow for an early departure for them.

Event Rules

Drag Race

Pairs of vehicles race from a standing start over a course of 200m.  Vehicles may be run more than once, if riders wish.  A team’s best (fastest) run time will be used for the final score.

Everyday Vehicle Race Course
A Le Mans start will require vehicles to be unlocked and then raced for two laps of a circuit which incorporates a cattle grid, water hazard and hairpins, before stopping, dismounting and running to pick-up your cargo (4 x 2 litre milk bottles), with the cargo safely stowed competitors then race a further four laps to the finish.

Enduro Race
All vehicles start together and race together on a closed circuit of ~900m length, for one hour. Teams may change riders as often as they like although all riders must take a similar share of the riding time.  A team’s score is based on the number of laps completed in an hour, and the time taken to complete the remainder of the race. Team placings will be sorted by average velocity of each team over the duration of the event.
