This image is from my "famed" Route 66 trip, in January 2000.

It's the background image for the Home page, and actually is of a gypsum dune in the White Sands National Monument Park, near Almagordo, New Mexico. I had to lie on my belly, looking up (hill? dune?) to get this perspective.

Just about dead center is an interruption in the ripples, its the dragging stroke of a bird's footprint on the dune's face.

More Gypsum Dunes here, it's a huge park, lots of ground to cover.

I drove around for a while looking for an unmarked dune (the above shot was the best I could find). Once I did, I climbed to the top, about 3 or 4 stories up. I sat there marveling at the view and the incredible quiet. Keep in mind, I live in Chicago, and at the time, my bedroom was right on a major street with trucks and ambulances going by at all hours.

So there I was, listening to my own heart beat. This was the most alien environment I had ever been in, and I savored every minute.

Bright and Blue are the two Prudential Buildings accompanied by the Aon Center. I'm on Columbus Drive, facing North, alongside the School of the Art Institute and Millenium Park Mess.

Rollover the image to see the original. There weren't any big problems with the original, I just think it's prettier this way. I like blue.By the way, all three buildings are for sale. Got $500 million and don't know what to do?

This "King" has quite a history, most of which I don't know. He's one of three different figureheads (literally) that I rescued out of a construction dumpster. At the time, I was a non-union, professional, happily underpaid schlep-girl (that's stage manager to you non-theatre folk, THANKS RUSS!) at Chicago Dramatists Workshop. I gave two of them to my buddy, RKT, as a present way back then. Recently, we re-distributed the kings after something like six years of living together (us and the kings). Now I have the one pictured here. Lest you think there was a divorce, we weren't married, we're just best buds.
