1996 First Retreat

What can I say about 2001? Mike and Maureen tragically lost their son Patrick in a car accident before the new year was even a month old. Then September 11th. Certainly, a year to take stock and appreciate the little things, such as old friends.

Just two weeks after 9-11 we managed to rally ourselves to a reunion at a new venue: a Yuppie Palace in lower Vermont. Quite a change of pace from our first reunion in a log cabin in northern New Hampshire. As the pictures attest, this place had everything. Including a piano that only Ed could play, somewhat. The game room was a big hit with its pool and ping pong tables. I forget who won the tournament. I think Dyer and Gomer are still playing ping pong. It took us two days to figure out how to work the Satellite TV. As usual the food was great: 5 course Italian on Friday; grilled steak and potatoes on Saturday.

Thanks to Mullen we managed a hike on the Appalachian Trail. For honesty's sake, I have to admit that it was a baby hike. But at least we didn't bring any beer into the woods.

I was the one who booked the Yuppie Palace, so I can't complain; however, I prefer more rustic settings. We'll probably go back again next year. But if I have my way, we'll be back in the woodsy boonies in two years with our fishing poles--and no fish (you gotta go to a country club in Missouri for that.)

Polosky almost made it.
Tony didn't make any promises he couldn't keep (with Tony its sort of like Mohamed and the mountain).
Dyas was away at college.
I'm not sure what happened to Evans.
Renner was celebrating a lot of years with his wife.
Who did I leave out?

We found Paul Kurtulik on the internet (classmates.com). He made his first guys reunion. Paul was like a kid in Disney Land all weekend.

Bill Franey came all the way from Florida. Quite a trip--no double entendre intended. Needless to say, Bill ain't changed a bit. Still fiesty after all these years. Sorry about those Dolphins this year, Bill. Console yourself with the thought that Tony can't be too happy either.

This was also the year that I got email addresses for some of the girls and even corresponded with a few: Kathy (Kate) Scott; Claudia Russel, Margret Krohn, Noree Beyrent, Arlene Appio, Cynthia Letourneau, Diane Tomason,  Sue Leahey, and even Diane Forrester. Hi girls! (Hope I spelled everyone’s name right.)

As you'll see on the website, six guys celebrated their 5th retreat and received a commemorative plaque to honor the event. Steve Lucid will join the elite 5 Year Club next year.

Most of us will be turning 50 this year. (Martini was a 1953 baby-which in retrospect explains alot). Should be a lot of partying going on. Starting with TD's bash in March.
I've heard the the 50s are the best years in a man's life. Can't wait.

Hope all of you out there enjoyed the updated web site. Keep in touch
