Milde's Warm Up

1969

Boyz,

As I read KW's missives and the others, I feel the excitement building and the fact that I won't be with you hits home.  It sounds like it will be a terrific trip that could only be matched by a Club Med trip to Haiti. I wish you all a bon voyage.

Anyway, as a few of you may know I've left the employ of GE and am now working for Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal/Chemical). This new job has given me the opportunity to run, at least once a week, through our Alma Mater.  My runs down Madison Ave and through the campus have conjured up 30 year old memories both pleasant and painful.  As I run past Mary Hemmer's old street I think I remember Halloween parties. Upon entering the grounds via the west gate I'm reminded of September 1, 1969, triple sessions and running around the campus with the football team as Flanagan flatulated.
That's what I remember.

As I pass the front lawn I can remember being in the back of Dyer's '62 Biscayne (which was big enough for two to lay down in the back seat) doing 360's on the grass after Saturday night football meetings.  Always praying we were not going to broadside a tree or Martini's lime green W. Dream. Next is a boarded up conservatory and filled in pool. When I pass the mansion I remember being a scared freshman always afraid I might be flushed by the Moore twins (if you watched the Jets vs. Tampa Sunday their nephew Dave scored a TD).  I can still see us standing on the hill, varsity jackets worn proudly, posing for the yearbook.  You should see the football field. It's like they don't even practice on it. No worn out middle, no dirt patches. Besides the uprights they have soccer goals at either end. Running past Mt. St. Barnicle I got shivers thinking about the windsprints, up and down.  I always thought I might trip and be trampled by "Tank" Natale or Gary Muth.  Next I can hear echoes of Yellow Submarine, led by Mullen.

Their practice area (where we used to do exercises) is covered with football equipment. I can only remember a rusty old seven man sled and Jimmy Dangler holding a tackling dummy.  As I leave campus through the Father Meekim gate I soon pass the "dust bowl" while running down Danforth Ave. It is covered with a thick, plush grass.  Who in their right mind would let young men do windsprints in that environment?  If I develop lung disease I'll know why.

For those of you who didn't play football I apologize for my rambling. To the rest of you, remember the Vally game.

Well that's all for now. Have a great weekend.  What are we doing next year?

Mike

Pololsky's Wrap Up

2000

Guys---what a weekend.

I just want to tell you all how much this get together meant to me. I realized why I consider myself so lucky in life. It all started with good friends. What a good feeling I have inside. I just cut my grass and the whole time I was laughing to myself about all the laughs we had. Beth made me tell her all the details before I went to sleep. I did have the TV remote in my hand the whole time.

ROMANO---My vote for funniest guy. It was a toss up between you and Joe but I saw your golf game. I never knew you and the Gleenbrook road connection. I miss seeing you running for a touchdown. However, I remember running a punt back 85yards to the five. Next play you come in and fell over the goal-line. Next day in the Paper headlines "Romano scores on great run."  No mention of me.
I guess its justice as they could never prove I was on the field--no tapes ever saw me.

EVANS---The quiet one. That's who you have to watch out for. We never did Get to go fly-fishing. I would like for you to teach me sometime. Thanks for Linning up the golf putt off. You got mad when we went out of order.

GOMERINGER---Joe what can i say. Tony handed me the keys to the big red machine and told me I was driving. Once I heard you drove a fire engine it was only fitting you took over. You kept the group in stitches. Thanks.

GANNON---I am so jealous you looked great in the varsity jkt. I can't believe it still fits. You have a great looking family--you and Gail did something right. Tell Margret Mary hi for me next time you see her.

MAJOR---I really enjoyed playing your cards for you--we played until three. You were winning until you came back. I kept raising with your money. It was easy. I lied to you the first day--you asked if purple shirts were still in. I said yes, sorry. I liked your idea for some type scholarship from the class of 70. What ever you guys decide--I am in.

TD---30 seconds. That was a great night. Thanks for motivating everybody to spill their guts. The only problem, I don't remember what anybody said. It was a great exercise and got us really thinking about what's important. Keep kicking like that.

WOLFE---the runner with bad knees. You're as gray on top as I am. Thanks for that. You have good looking kids---thank god for Mary. Tell her I said Hi Hope you made it back to Chicago--what a road trip you had. Did you get to stop on the way home and see the vintage cars. I think it was my boss' place.

MULLEN---The soft spoken one.
At least one of us still has a little class. I told you I idolized your brother but after this trip your not so bad yourself. Thanks for the kind words about Robin. Hope all your pictures turn out. I hope you guys can send me copies. I will give you my address at end of memmo.

RENAHAN----Mister soft money. You took mine at poker game. Do you have to declare that? Tom I enjoyed your talks about politics keep those dogs feed. I still do not know who to vote for

EDDY---Roomy!!! I told my son I roomed with you. He asked if you still had the good fast ball. I told him I didn't think so. I really hope you feel better soon. Thanks for being so open. When I think of the old Bayley days you were a big part of all my sports memories

JIMMY D----What can I say. You are one of my favorite guys. You had the shot of the week on number 18. Get a pair of golf shoes and you could be tough. I really enjoy your personality. Sorry about the trash talk on putting green--it may have been the buds. No your right, we will be doing it to each other when we are 80.

KEVIN---I am so honored to be apart of your first fish.  Romano and myself caught ours when we were two.  Thanks for getting me out of bed--it was fun. I told Beth about the garage picture. A little different she said.  Then I told her it was for you. Some how she understood.
Don't forget Deb Miller's info.
What about the boat--thank God is was still  a float Sunday morning. Kevin thanks for all your efforts--its obvious this does not happen without your dedication---thanks for a great memory.

I think I got everyone except the man Tony P.

TONY---I think you know how I feel about you, but guys like me never say it. Thanks for being my friend all these years. We had a special thing at Bayley. You don't know it, but you shaped my future in many ways---if you did not introduce me to Beth who knows where I would be. In a guy's life there is always one guy that stands out ---you are it for me. I respect the way you have handled yourself. My biggest complement to you is that my kids call you Uncle Tony and Aunt Ruth. We are not really related are we? Thanks for a great weekend--
I told Ryan I slept in condo that Arnie did---whow!!!
What a great place you have and Ruth looked like she was really happy. The weekend would have not happened without your efforts--thanks
I fill really bad because I know you will probably get kicked out of the Club. But there is always your other club. Looking forward to seeing you in Scottsdale---Erin is so happy you can come. Well guys sorry for the long email ---I wish all of you and your families the best I will do my best to make the future reunions. It really was worth it for me. If anybody ever is in the Pittsburgh area please call and come up.

PS.  As I was writing this novel my son Ryan called from school. He was going to ask for money. After I talked to him about our great weekend and the importance of friends, he is going to call his high school buddies and keep in touch. I still sent him a 20.
Take care
Pat P-----I am going out today to get my f150 Ford Silver-Kingcab-dual
